thinking of trading my 990 for a 1050

Post by Mitch » Sun Aug 16, 2015 9:57 pm

Hi I love my SMT however need something thats more tourer friendly. I have toured both UK and europe on the 990, not interested in off roading so thinking of trading in my 990 for a 1050 adventurer. I like the spec of the 1050 just concerned about the 95 BHP don't need top end just mid range grunt. Has anyone traded their 990 for a 1050 if so interested in your thoughts.

I like the comment ref: dropping the forks. When I 1st got my 990 adv. after yrs on typical sports / sports touring bikes - I couldn't get my head around the height of the bike. you have your natural "feel factor" guide when cornering and if its from a diet of street bikes then this is alien.
so for the 1st few thousand miles I kept the suspension soft - coupled with a low KTM seat ( I am 6' 2" - i.e. not for leg size) - just so I could learn the bike closer to my "feel factor". Now I've got it wound up to sports setting and a proper seat - sitting higher and i've got the corners re calibrated, what I notice now is just a tad of understeer - maybe wrong word, a bit too neutral and slower to turn in - fork drop versus rear shock jack up should do the trick

anyway - point is - if - when you 1st get on one and you find you get a bit lost with respect to how far to go in the corners - run her as low as you can until you get the confidence

Hi all I bought an 1190 about 4 weeks ago.I was thinking of getting a brand new 1050, until I saw my 2013/8000 kms 1190 Adv. with heated grips,Tyre pressure sensing,EDS, panniers and top case plus a 2 years manufacturers warranty & FDSH. I paid 10,000€.

She's a beautiful machine but I've already started the modification trail:

SAS has gone - smoother throttle and lower temps;

O² sensors soon to be gone - smoother transition from fuelling table 1 to 2;

Change in the airbox to seal it better - appalling that the airbox doesn't seal!

Great bikes let down a bit by poor design details.

2013 1190 Adventure - Burnished copper !!

De-AI'd, soon to be De-o² sensors and remove cat. Plus new air filter set-up.
