Welcome back!

I could sell you (back) a nice pair of LED handguards for that lovely looking bike you have

(Never did get round to fitting them, but the seat works a treat ;) )
This is what I do with mine....

Hi, mate me too, exchanged the 990 set for 1190 adv, wanted the R but I'm not tall enough. Still miss the 990 sometimes but the adv is awesome. Cheers Bernie

Great minds think alike. Sold my SMT a couple of months ago and bought an 1190S. Loved the SMT dearly and it took some parting with. Took a year and a couple of cancelled ads before I bit the bullet.

Bought it as a budget upright tourer but really its a back road hooner more than a distance bike. The 1190 does that better but if I could have, I'd have kept the SMT as well.

Ha ha know what you mean, but have found that apart from the extra weight, not so flickable, the adv is a bit better for everything else. Happy days

Like bull 101 I to have returned to the 'adventure fold'.
After a year of trying to get used to the semi-active suspension on a 1290GT I finally gave up with the pogo stick, bucking bronco, back shattering ride and am now back on a pre-registered 1190 Adventure - bliss! I can now go round bends and a fair idea of where the bike is going and can ride over matchsticks - and probably tree trucks - and still be going in the same direction with my back intact!
It's not that much slower either, in fact in the real world of Oxford/Cotswold cart tracks posing as main roads, I suggest the Adventure is quicker and a bloody site more comfortable!

1190s are damn quick. They don't have anything like the outright acceleration of the 1290 but the pace they can keep up through bends takes a lot of people by surprise. They annoy the hell out of sports bikes.
Through the windies I'm just as quick on the 1190 as I am on the Superduke. Sometimes more so.

Totally agree Gimlet - when I had first ride of the1290 super adventure I wasn't a fan of the semi-active nonsense but the engine is a different story. How about a 1290 GT motor in 1190 adventure setup - the perfect combo.....?

I went from a 990 SMT, to an 1190 Adventure S, 1290 GT and have now ended up with a 1290 S and i love it.

As for the 1290 GT, it was ballistic and fun BUT for me at 6' 2" tall my legs just didn't fit the tank cut outs, plus like "oldgit" I didn't like the suspension on less than perfect roads. Whereas the semi active suspension on the 1290S is great and works really well; especially after i had the preload increased to suit my weight.

With hindsight I also preferred the 1190 S over the 1290GT.

Enjoy your 1190

Thanks BDG, I went for the GT because the S hadn't been released, having subsequently ridden the S I should have waited!
Couldn't justify the £5k the dealer wanted to change, that's why I 've gone for the 1190. Missing the power but not the back ache - at 10 1/2 stone dripping you can guess what the GT was like for me!
