Heated grips

Post by Savman » Sun Nov 05, 2017 1:39 pm

Hi guys, anyone know if the heated grips for the SD1290r are the same for the 16 & 17 year bikes?

I just put them on my 2016. Fit perfect and they work great. Only con is they don't turn off when you shut the bike off. You have to turn them off manually.

Something wrong with your setup if they don't turn off when you turn the bike off. Mine do on my 2016.

I have experience with this one. The 2017 grip is different. I ordered a set for my bike, there is a gap between the throttle tube and the housing. I can get a picture in the next day or so. I had my dealer send me a set for the 2017, now I have both. The 2016 grips do work, just that gap and they are for sale.

Hmmm...that's odd. I wonder what could be wrong. They work fine otherwise.

Just put heated grips on my 2016 1290 SDR. Grips reset to off when ignition cycles.

As an aside, I was worried I was getting old when I decided to put these on my bike. Had them on snowmobiles for years but I said never on a bike. I rode with them last night for first time, was 3 C or 37 F. I can't understand why I didn't put them on sooner. I'll accept that I am old now but at least I have warm hands lol

Was out riding in the higher elevation yesterday. We had to seek lower altitude because my buddies hand were goijng numb. I was fine.

Correction, mine seems to hold the previous setting when the ignition is cycled.

Mine on my '16 also retain their settings through ignition on / off cycles.

But when the bike is turned off, so are the grips. If they were on medium when I turned the key off, they go off and cool down... but when I restart the engine they will be on, on medium, and heating up again.

That is exactly the way I want them to behave.
