Sturdy iPhone mount for 2017 SDR?

Post by megalord » Fri Sep 01, 2017 4:16 pm

Its so easy to run a power cable from the usb under the seat to the bars so I'm thinking I should just use an iPhone for satnav, at maximum brightness. Can someone recommend a mount allows for different iPhones, as I'll update next month for the waterproof one (currently iPhone 6)?

Additionally, would there be any problem plugging in a usb hub so I can use multiple devices? Is there any power drawn whilst the bike is off?

The USB is only live when the "key is on". I have a Ram mount that works pretty good. (There is a rumor on the street that you should keep it under 160mph, :) but at normal sppeds all is good.) I am unsure what the charging system puts out on the bike. I would think if you give the battery a chance to charge between uses all should be good. Maybe look into a lithium battery.

Its no rumor (LOL), my phone went flying at or around that speed. I just threw the RAM mount away and went with a Quadlock right below the TFT. Looks better, is out of the windblast and seems more secure.

I've got a quadlock too - using the new motorcycle mount. It works well (to 130kmh anyway :) )

Used it in the driving rain on the way home tonight. The rain cover works ok but its not magnificent. If you're doing highway speeds in the rain, I'd recommend having it in front of the dash or giving it some "extra protection". I'll work out a way to do that later.

Rokform is the best phone mount hands down, no other brand comes close.

is there a usb plug under the seat that i can use to power my phone etc? i thought that might have been for the the service department to do something.

where are you guys mounting your quad locks or ram mounts. i tried the handle bar ram mount from another bike just to the left of the TFT and it just didnt seem to fit or look right

Yeah, the usb is for charging, and it is only live when the ignition is in. I use the Ram mount in the same spot as you. I thought it was okay. I leave it landscape, and only rotate it if need be. That said, I only mount it when I need my phone.

Use the Quadlock mount made for Bicycles, it will mount between the handlebar clamps and with a bit of fiddling (And drilling to small holes in an unseen plastic panel behind the bars for 2 zip ties to go through) it will position the phone, in landscape mode right below the TFT. It actually looks amazing there as it looks OEM and functions as a second screen, super trick looking in my opinion.

Quadlock motorbike mount

It works fine like this but I'm going to put on the optional arm that comes in the kit to move the phone across and centered under the dash

Anyone tried a iPhone Plus sized with the quadlock in landscape? Does it obscure the screen much?
