Track prepping KTM 2015 SD1290R.

Post by 5150 Pops » Mon Aug 21, 2017 2:56 am

Already had put KTM handguards and GB Racing case covers, some time ago, as well as T-DRIVE rotors.

KTM powerparts (track only) installed today:
Front number plate
Rider seat unit
Passenger seat cover with integrated dummy taillight.

Removed all lights, mirrors, passenger pegs.
Installed Evotech muffler hanger.
Cleaned up the remaining restriction in the OEM muffler, and reinstalled rivets.
Modified my RAM mount by removing suction cup, and directly bolting it behind number plate in front area where headlight normally resides. Don't have it ideally where I want it, but this will be corrected during the winter, wasted too much time on it today!

Still have to tighten steering head bearings.
Install uprated fork springs.
Apply foam pad to seat pan.
Bleed brakes.
Numbers will be here Tuesday.
Spoon on slicks.

LOL!
They're my fork "guards". J/k once I had the new pieces fitted, I washed the bike, before putting it away.
Still other more important things to do before Saturday with the bike.

A fellow, local member here is offering me assistance with doing a Track\Ride day at some of the local area facilities. He seems to do more than a few so I'm hoping to go with him and learn a bit about just what it takes, in all aspects, to get on he track and have some safe fun. I like doing a few walk throughs, everything besides the actual riding gets me stressed, LOL.

Stress will go away, or become excitement, because after your first full day of riding on a road course with a motorcycle, you will have an enormous desire to do it many many times more.

Couple things, get a lot of sleep beforehand, and have the mindset of a person who is about to ride a motorcycle for the first time ever. In many ways, it will almost feel that way. Most organizations have different skill group that each get 15 minutes on track, every hour. You will almost certainly be put in the lowest skill group, to be evaluated. Don't let it keep you from having a good time, due to sore ego. Some do get bumped up to next group after half a day or full day, but most first timers will have to endure up to 5 days with any one particular org, b4 advancing.

I don;t mind being in the slow group, that's where Id feel most comfortable for learning.

Well guess what, my handlebar clamp was on backwards. :o
I've never removed the handlebar clamp, so I guess the dealer employee put it on backwards, during the uncrating.
Finished the steering head nut above bearing (under top triple clamp) tightening, reinstalled/torqued top clamp, bottom clamp, applied the power parts seat pad to the fiberglass seat pan, removed front wheel and intended to take the rear off, but the whole family was in bed, so I'll have to wait until tomorrow.

Here's a few more closer pics of the fiberglass seat and the fiberglass rear with integrated taillight void cover.
I almost bought the little piece Racefoxx.com sells, to fill the void from removing taillight, and it would have allowed me to use my other powerparts ABS plastic rear seat cover that has the bum stop pad, but I don't really think that piece looks good with the fiberglass front seat.
