Anyone review the OOPArt KTM exhaust?

Post by Kcal » Mon Aug 28, 2017 2:09 am

Just stumbled on it on YouTube and found they sell it on eBay. No affiliation at all with these folks in BC but it looks really good and sounds better.

For the 17 owners like myself it would require flapper removal which I'm not sure I want to do. It may be there for emissions but there's also a low end benefit as well.

This exhaust is however making me think hard about taking that step though. Sounds so good on the video and I would really like the tip in orange. Looks great and no issue with the side bags I want to add.

Any links? The flapper is also there to keep the decibels down. If you are looking for more volume you will need to remove it.

Don't know how to link anything here. They are on Facebook and eBay . Just search for OOPArt and ktm.

Not really looking for increased decibels per say but it sounds incredible in tone.

The more times I listen to it the closer to my wallet it comes. Just realized the video was uploaded like 40 minutes ago so unlikely anyone here has seen it yet.

Great view of the single sided swing arm like the austin hi mount, great sound like Akra evo, cheaper then both by like 75%.

With the amount of power, and Trq these make, do not worry about loosing a smidgen of low end power, you'll never truly notice it. I didn't.

Are there any side pics\vids of this exhaust?

Thanks.

Anyone interested in a group buy? I reached out the them to see about the orange tip and possibility to ceramic coat the stock header.

A group buy may be a good way to save a little if enough people are interested.

That 90 Degree Bend\Outlet must hinder performance some? Plus the Can looks like a Catalytic converter, how heavy is the system?

7.7 lbs is weight and it's designed to have a little back pressure for the low end but not enough to limit high end. Happy medium sounds like.

Tips can be colored, obviously orange or black would be ideal for us for the most part. They also have two different orrifice sizes to the tips to limit how loud it is a WOT or higher load. Low load/idle the orrifice size makes no difference.

Just passing on what I'm getting told.

Limited production and only 1 left. Will do group buy on 6 or more as an order as it will be another production run.

This forum moves a little slow so I have one incomming. Akra is cool but this thing sounds great so I'm going to take first stab.

I'll report back when I get it on.

here it is! Weighs 8lbs 1oz with the orange tip. Clearly a lot of effort went into fabricating this part. The exhaust gas first hits a wedge and then has to bend around 2 flat plates further back the makes a couple turns for side exit. Fabrication is really good and detail is nice. A raw angular exhaust for a raw and angular bike like the Beast. Can't wait to get the Rottweiler flapper removal partvto confuse flapper motor so I can put it on.

$540 shipped I believe and no flow testing I know of.

No batting in it to change, all hard parts so should last life of the bike or until I see a new shiny object😉

That thing looks crazy with the 90* bend. These engines do seem to like a little back pressure to keep torque at street level rpms. Can't wait for your review.

And it's on! Thanks to Rottweiler and their servo stand in to kill flapper valve.

I couldn't be happier. It is quite loud and have not ridden it yet to see how it sounds under load and higher rpm. Full review coming.

Wait till I ceramic coat the headers matte black too. Definitely happy with this part. Fit was perfect. Sound is perfect. Granted Super dukes are a bit of a niche market but these guys at moto-diy really made a gem.

Would you mind downloading a db meter app and measuring the noise? I have one on my phone, they are pretty straight forward. If you do I have one suggestion. Either delete the app when you are done, or take away it's permissions. It will probably have control of your microphone. Also, they do need to be calibrated. Essentially the one I have needs to be tuned in a silent room, or with another meter.

Well it certainly looks great. If I didn't already have the akrapovic evo I would definitely consider this.

I used one and it was 80-81 db at 1800 ish rpm idle and 105 around 4K rpm. I'm going to retest to see if I can get an average over a few trials. Akra slip on was 72 db at idle and 101 at same throttle.

Doesn't look like a big change but this sucker is loud. Just fired it up in my neighborhood this AM at 6:30 AM and I'm afraid I'm "that neighbor." It sounds like the giant v twin that it is. The sound is fantastic under load but make no mistake it's loud. Saving grace is it's loud but "good deep tone" loud, not brappy annoying loud.

And the morning conversation 2 houses down after the baby wakes up at 630 and the wife wakes up the husband and says our a$$hole neighbor just woke up the baby again with that stupid loud bike. . Yeah honey, but it's not brappy loud. -death stare.

I'm joking but you just know that conversation had happened somewhere.
