2017 Full Akra Weight Savings?

Post by Rusty Shackleford » Wed Jun 21, 2017 4:52 am

Since the 2017 model has put on some weight over gen 1, which I'm assuming is mostly due to the new euro 4 exhaust system.
I am interested if anyone has weighed the exhausts when they switched over, and what kind weight savings they've gotten?

Maybe some of this will help, though it is not a Akara system.

Stock Silencer, 6.4 Lbs.

Image

Stock Cat and Exhaust Valve Servo Motor, 4.9 Lbs.

Image

Stock Headers 5.9 Lbs

Image

Total stock system weight 17.2 Lbs.

Ti AR Link pipe, 1.2 Lbs.

Image

Ti AR Hi Mount Silencer, 2.6 Lbs.

Image

Ti AR Headers, 2.7 Lbs.

So, roughly 6.5 Lbs for the complete AR exhaust.

17.2 Lbs for the Stock Exhaust system. 6.5 Lbs for the complete AR System., for a weight savings of 10.7 Lbs.

Thats awesome Fry thanks, once the headers are factored in it should be a pretty good chunk of weight off the bike. I love the Austin Racing system but I fear that system will be to loud for my ears

I have a love hate relationship with it.

I love the looks, simply amazing.

I both love and hate how loud it is. For spirtied quick trips, especially at gatherings its such an attention whore, which I love. On long trips the booming sound gets old quick. I'm actually starting to wear ear plugs because of it.

Also I hate the tight tolerance of the Link pipe coming up through the Swingarm hole near shock, and I don't like that they changed the Silencer hanger from 2 brackets to 1, it creates a pivot point at the slip joint which I don't like. Also the optional Pass Peg bracket and the need to seriously stiffen up suspension for use with a Pass and this exhaust pains me, but you have to accept compromises when trying to look and sound cool, LOL.

Yeah, I fucking hate the tight tolerances on the fitment of this pipe.

Can't argue that the Austin looks killer. But when exhaust shopping I read that it's tight, loud and can melt the right side blinker. So, I went akrapovic.

Also weight savings on the 17's should be a little more because that exhaust valve assembly probably weighs close to a pound itself.

Well, I removed the directional so I don't have to worry about that.

I did melt the front right (Brake side) edge of the stock mud guard\swing-arm cover, also melting the ABS wire, luckily I caught that in time and was able to move that wire.

Love hate for sure.

On the prototype Jeremy McWilliams used to ride around, you could see there was heat shielding added to the right rear fairing underneath.

The 17 has much less rear fairing, but I wonder still if you might not see what you do have melt, and/or the finish on the subframe, on that side?
