Full akrapovic on 2017 issues

Post by megalord » Tue Apr 11, 2017 10:58 pm

So I got the full exhaust with the bike. Dealer made a hash of it trying to take the baffle out, they think it can't be removed without a lot of hassle. They've left the rubber grommet out at the back of the carbon end cap, hope that is not an issue. Damaged baffle is half an inch out of the exhaust so not secured with the screw.

Just saw a Royal Jordanian video where he just pulled his baffle out and tossed it in some bushes.

Do you need to put the exhaust through some heat cycles before removing the baffle?

They updated them with a tighter fit. Mine was like yours.

I got mine out eventually, but ended up doing some damage to the inside end of the baffle. Luckily, the can itself is fine.

After a half hour or so of banging on the back of the baffle I found the perfect solution: Find a washer with an outside diameter just smaller than the inner diameter of the can, and a small ID. Then find some kind of pole or something and slip the can over it, with the washer between the pole and baffle, and just start dropping/throwing the can down, to land baffle first on the pole. I used the handle of my floor jack. Use some microfiber towels over things to prevent damage.

As for heat, I think if you get the can hot, while keeping the baffle cool, that will help. I tried pushing the baffle at room temp back in after riding the bike, and was able to push it in further than I would when everything is cool. Maybe run the bike, and place some kinda of Ice pack inside the baffle? Careful not to burn yourself. I think lining it up and getting it back in will be just about impossible with the new specs, given the angled tip.

Doing any of this is not advised, just my experience. Any damage or injuries are not my fault :)

Royals akra system was off his '15? Not sure of the year. But I read that the new euro 4 standard has the baffle installed in a way" as to do damage to the muffler if it is removed". That's most likely what's going on.

Mine is the 2016 exhaust with parts needed to fit the 2017 bike so I didn't think there would be a Euro 4 issue.

I should have mine back today with a full system that was purchased 2 months ago. I will let you know what my set up looks like. I don't think the dealer should have damaged your slip on. That's not cool. Theses things aren't cheap.

hello there,

i know this post is old a bit but just to let u know.. i had to smash mine on my 2016 for like 1 hour but it came out. No sign of welding on the dbkiller its just ultra tight in there. I also didnt ride the bike at all before trying to remove it. Maybe a few ride with the exhaust heat would give the titanium steel the expension it needs to loosen the dbkiller. Everyone who bought this exhaust know how expensive it is and dont want to break it :) My dealer didnt even want to give it a try since he didnt want to pay for replacement if broken haha :D

forgot to mention that the dbkiller is no longer usable after my attempt

hope it helps !
