2017 SDR1290 Full exhaust or Slip On - Noise?

Post by megalord » Tue Mar 28, 2017 1:17 pm

Its a powerful bike, I'm not that bothered about the additional performance gains from a full system as it will be a road bike for me. My concern is noise so drivers can hear me. Is there much of a difference between noise levels of the slip akra without baffle and the full akra without baffle?

Yes. Main difference is full system omits the catalytic converter. At low revs they are probably fairly even just with different tones. But when on the gas the cat deleted system should really bark. My full system is sitting in a box waiting for my dealer to get there $hit together and install it.

The full Akra system on mine, with baffle in, is quite loud compared to my mates std Akra end can, going to remove the baffle before the next ride out, see how loud it is.

Some disturbing news floating around the net related to this topic.

Anyone hear that Akrapovic is pulling their exhausts for North America. Dealers not allowed to sell existing stock. And mailing them back to Europe. Mines paid for and sitting at the dealer but if there are no maps to download it could really suck.

Anyone confirm this insanity?

The dealer is fitting the 2016 full akra exhaust to my 2017 bike with addition of some parts that need ordering. I was hesitant because I'd rather have the 2017 exhaust but that is on back order. Has anyone else done it this way?

Doesn't really make any sense. 2017 KTM Power Parts catalog lists both the original Akra for 2014-2016 and the Akra for 2017. It appears the hardware is the same for both, but differs in the software. Why would they release a new catalog with parts they were not going to sell?

question is how much you want to spend :)

if you go with full Akrapovic system you will cash out £1900 +vat

if you go decat and slip on you will definetly spend £400 on exhaust then £300 for Power Commander and dyno hours for custom map .

so slip on and decat option is alot cheaper how ever when you selling the bike Akrapovic full system more attractive

When I bought this bike I promised my self I was not modifying it.
That didn't last.
So no I'm promising myself That I will keep it all Ktm. Akra full system is the only option.

My dealer says the exhaust is the same for 2017 but an additional fitting kit needs to be ordered to remove the servo and plug in a dummy plug (dongle) and re-fit the rear brake reservoir. He didn't say if the map was changing for the 2017 bike but Royal Jordanian said the KTM Centre had a new 2017 map on his YouTube channel

racing slip on for the full akra system
they will hear you !!!!
then add a pair of rotty dongles
to replace replace the 02 sensors.
low end surge is gone.
let the party begin !!!!!!!!

Akrapovic full system installed on my '15. Baffle in. It's loud. I'm surprised at how loud it is. Baffle out would be straight pipe Harley loud. Baffle in is a fantastic deep tone with both cylinders clearly distinct at lows and sound like a race car when on it. I don't know if the baffle is removable and don't care. It's perfect. And only going to get louder as the packing matts down.

Worth the money ----------- yes.

Mega,
I have a Remus midpipe and a titanium Remus cannister. Bike sound is perfect to me. I had it at a dealership in NC to have the akra map loaded and a guy from east tennessee was there with a Austin Racing can and damn was his SDR loud. I like to hear my bikes but imho that is better suited to a race track than coming out of my neighborhood at 6:30 am, lol. By the way, I got a great deal from Remus USA on both pieces. I think I either mentioned this forum or one other KTM one and he cut me a killer deal. 673.00 for both and the can is ti :D

Do you have any updates on what exactly has been done to the 17 to get the full Akra fitted? My bike is currently with the dealer for this exact mod, and they're aren't 100% sure whats needed to get the old exhaust fitted. Any info would help

My dealer says that the 2017 needs an Akrapovic fitting kit as I mentioned in a previous post in this thread. I was told that the first kits were due into KTM UK on rhe 25th May and would take a week or so to get out to dealers.
