Electrical problem - whirring upon battery connection

Post by jhalfhide » Wed Oct 12, 2016 7:45 pm

Hi All,

Got a 2013 SMT. Fit my tracker and forgot to put it on charge so the tracker batter drained the bike battery. Unable to recover.

Got a new battery and upon connecting it up, the moment I connect both terminals, I get a motor whirring. It sounds like it's coming from the ABS pump. It's an electrical motor spinning and it doesn't stop.

Turning the ignition on gives me nothing. Any ideas?

I now know I'm shorting the starter motor. Question is, how should these wires and spacers go. I dropped on spacer under the fuel pump and have no idea how to wire any of it back up. I basically just yanked the battery and replaced.

Hi J. What is a tracker ?. Is this a trickle charger ?. Was the bike off when you had this tracker connected to it ?

BikeTrac. Gps locator. I know I am wiring up the starter motor wrong, manual doesn't explain it either.

Did you get it sorted out ?

The starter motor has dedicated cabling to the battery. So the battery's (+) will have two lugs connecting to it and (-) will also have two lugs connecting to it.

Is your new battery charged ?. It should read about 13V if the battery is fully charged.

I know what it is now. Going to sort it when I get home.

Hey
I might be totally wrong... BUT, the + (plus) and the - (minus) screws at the battery seems to be at "wrong side" - due to the cables has the red things on the cables to the right side and the black ones on the cables on the left side... ?! Or am I missing something?
On my 2010 the + (plus) at the battery is located at the bikes right side.

Exactly. This battery runs them both sides so when I attached the terminals in the house, I then put it in the bike backwards (in the dark). Might have taken a fuse or two out but we'll see in the morning

Ahh, yes. Good pick up Magic Wand. Gotta watch for that :). Good to see the bike has reverse polarity protection.

We call it a PICNIC problem. Problem in customer not in computer.

Just been out for a blast on it. Uploaded one of the tune ECU maps before I went. Wow! What a difference.

But dark out now. Will take one tomorrow. Fits a treat and you get to use the rear terminals for connecting auxiliary stuff. I'm running my tracker, an optimate cable and a power distribution module. All run using relays so no battery drain.
