Leaking fuel cap

Post by limeyduffa » Sun Oct 07, 2018 1:43 pm

Hi All

My fuel cap is leaking. The seal is worn (see pic below).

I smell fuel during riding. Wriggling the cap, it doesn't feel that it's pressing against the seal very. The cap is not serviceable (no break down on the KTM fiche) and a new cap is $400AUD !. Has anyone serviced their cap using non EOM seal ?

Cheers J

I've noticed that mine will weep around the seal if I overfill it so I try not to top it off. I've never noticed fumes or any smell though. Not sure if they're still around but somebody used to make a fuel cap replacement for these and the 690's that had a replacement collar and then used a standard mx fuel cap, not sure if that would be a suitable option for you since it doesn't lock but I considered it for a while.

Nagh, this leaks regardless. I always smell fumes. Yeah, those caps are available, but would rather keep the tank standard and replace the seal. I'll crack it apart on the weekend and try to find a matching seal (I nearly put "and try to find a match" Woof ! LOL ).
