1290 R. ECU re-flash.

Post by Camac » Mon Feb 26, 2018 2:24 pm

Has anybody had their ecu re-flashed ?
I have seen glowing reviews for Hilltop Motorcycles in Hinckley UK.
None of the reviews were specifically about the Superduke 1290 though.
Just wondered if anyone had first hand experience?

Not surprising there are no responses. I did have my ECU reflashed a year ago because of the speedo inaccuracy. Same inaccuracy and now I have an "off road" driving mode? I've yet to find a good technical site for the RC8 motors. BTW, at the risk of highjacking your thread, did you have any engine light issues when you installed the full Akra system. This problem has service managers at two dealerships stumped.

Hi drdon,

I`ve had a few replies on another forum. All were more or less pretty positive. My Superduke is booked in the end of March for the re-flash.

I had no issues when the full Akra system was installed. It was installed by a dealer who was very familiar with the installation.

I had my GT mapped @ hilltop, it surges/hunts @ 3k meaning you have to select a different gear so that your not sitting in the 3k it was dyno'd @ 147 base and I left with apparently 161 .

Having been playing on a demo SDR today I was shocked how smooth and nice the fuelling was compared to my 1290, mine felt like a bag of spanners when I jumped back on it and taking into account my GT is supposedly 161 @ wheel the SDR was ballistically more powerful.

Bren tuning used my bike to develop a Flash Tune for the SDR ECU. Should be up and available on their site, if not call them. They are in the States though.

HI Seanc 1290,

I havent had it done yet. I was speaking to the guys at Hilltop and as I`m based North of the Border i can get it re-mapped by one of their dealers in Dalkeith. I`m waiting on a cable being sent from Hilltop to the dealer to allow them to do it.
The dealer is a BMW dealer and they haven`t done a KTM before.

Let me know how it goes on Wednesday mate please.

Cheers.

Mr C. What mods do you have if you dont mind me asking? Read some good reviews from people with the same mods as me (airbox and full akra system) so hopefully will be a good map. Have you told hilltop about the surging? They seem like nice guys maybe they will tweak it for you. Cheers

P3 Tuning in Liverpool can flash/map the 1290, not had mine done but have heard good things about them.

Found this on you tube and asked them a few questions, which they were very responsive to.

I had my last SDR flashed by Hilltop and it made a huge difference to the bike.
Much smoother throttle response, more torque across the rev range especially in the main area I use on the road ie 3 to 8k rpm plus more power.
Recently changed to a 2017 SDR which is going to Hilltop next week, definately recommend them.

I had my Superduke 1290R re-mapped at Motorrad Dalkeith (BMW dealer) up here north of the border this morning.
Hilltop do it remotely via the dealer. Motorrad don`t have a dyno so that was a little concern, I need`nt have had the concern.
I could not be happier. No hunting or shunting at small throttle openings , a lot smoother on and off the throttle. Going by my arse dyno it seems to have lots more in the mid range where you can use it most on the road. Bit more top end as well but it`s the mid range that impressed me most. Don`t know if its my imagination but the engine feels smoother as well.

Can`t recommend Hilltop highly enough .

Wizards if you ask me. :D
