Brembo recall includes KTM???

Post by Daniro » Fri Jan 26, 2018 6:54 pm

Not sure how reliable is this information my friend extended to me today, but still wanted to share to see if anyone else heard something about it. Apparently Brembo brake recall extends to KTM models from '15 onwards, they still didn't announce it officially but it gives me a reason to worry since I'd hate my brakes failing on the track after 1km long straight. KTM all the way!

Recall is now official in the UK.
I don't know what models are affected, but I do know that mine is on the recall list.
2016 SDR 1290. I just put my details into the website, and it told me that there is a recall and I must contact my dealer. I called them and they confirmed my recall is for brakes, and they have ordered the kit.
My RC8 has now been replaced by the BEAST...........
YOU KNOW IT MAKES SENSE

Me too and I’ve got a 16 SD. Called my dealer with my VIN and there’s a “Master cylinder recall” It’s booked in tomorrow to be fixed. I would have thought a recall dealing with brakes/safety would have warranted a phone call or email to me from KTM but i guess not. Anyway, if you’re in the US you’d better check your VIN with a dealer too.

Ktm sent me a letter advising of the recall, being done on the 23rd.

Just affects 690 Dukes and 1290 SDRs from 2015-2017 as far as I know. Had my letter too. I'll book it in towards the end of the month. Get them to fit an Oberon slave too while they've got the hydraulic fluid out.

Have a 2015 but both ktm website and nhtsa (I'm in US) say mine isn't impacted. Guess I got lucky?

FYI. The recall was to replace the plunger inside the front brake master cylinder. It’s all done, took about 20-30 mins, feels and looks exactly as before. Maybe the recall is something to do with bikes/seals using DOT4?

FYI. Just got my recall in the mail. All US model 2015-18 Super Duke R’s and 2016-18 GT’s are affected.
Apparently the plunger/piston might crack.

Based on the KTM website MY2015 SDR doesn’t have any recall. I entered another vin of random 2015 I found online and shows the recall... who knows

KTM's online VIN checker told me my '16 SDR was unaffected but I got a letter from my dealer saying that it was affected and I should book in to get it fixed.

If in doubt, ask your dealer.
