18,000 mile service

Post by steve59 » Sun Aug 27, 2017 12:49 am

Has anyone brought their SDR in for the 18,000 mile in the usa and care to share results and price? I usually due my diligence and try to get an idea what my bikes are going to cost to keep but I was lovestruck by this one. I also like to rub others noses in how much smarter I am by buying smarter,
Enjoy

Still have a bit to go on mine but my dealer had quoted $660 for the valve check service. Most of that is labor since the work is fairly labor intensive. I'm just shy of 14k miles tho, so have a little time still.

Just had my 18,600 mile service done this week at my local dealer. I called two different dealer's beforehand for cost estimate's and was quoted $850 and $1050. And yes, most of this is labor cost. My valves were good, no adjustment needed. The other major parts cost was the spark plugs. $45 each and there's 4 in case anyone didn't know that. Dual spark for better performance comes at a big cost I guess. My dealer did try to cross reference the plugs to find a cheaper alternative but no luck. It seems KTM and NGK have a nice profitable deal going on between themselves.

Ridiculous and sad. Good example of corporate greed.

I got the part numbers for the 2 different plugs from the "Techical Data" section of the owners manual, and found the plugs on Sparkplugs.com. Paid US $40 for all 4. I haven't yet installed them (waiting for my upcoming 18,000 mile service) so I'm not 100% sure they're correct, but the numbers match up...

If anyone can verify or dispute the application, I'm all ears.
Thanks,

Mine's not due yet but in the UK I've been quoted about £450 which is $582.

Thanks for the reply and it is a bargain compared to my s3 that was $1200 every 12K.
Enjoy

Should be 18,641 mile service. :D

Not sure if you're aware, but KTM list this service at 182 minutes for a 2015 model and 186 minutes for a 2016 model, but that doesn't seem to include valve adjustment, only check.
