First Tune & Two Recalls

Post by Duncs » Thu Aug 17, 2017 6:50 am

Had my 2017 SD-R in for its first tune yesterday. All routine but with two factory recalls waiting for it. One was a software update and the other was a clear sticker for the swingarm to stop it being rubbed by the cables for the exhaust valve.

They didn't have a sticker in stock so I'll have to go back some other time.

I can't remember everything that was in the software update (sorry) but one bit was for the fuel gauge sensor. Mine starts up with 7 of 8 bars "filled" no matter what is going on in the tank. Last week I had 0.5L in the tank but it showed 7/8 full for a few km before going red! Then after filling it to the brim, same deal - 7/8 before flicking back to 8/8.

I'm hoping it fixed that at least.

I was really looking forward to turning off the anti-wheelie "feature" too but it's been pissing down ever since ...

The fuel gauge sensor is still dodgy.

Does anybody else having the same symptoms or am I the only lucky one?

Hello,

My 2017 1290 has just been for its first service yesterday and it had 3 recalls due.

1. Update fuel map for the Akra that came with it (not sure if it didn't get the Akra map before delivery or there is an updated one??)

2. Full system software update

3. Fuel pump or replacement. Apparently it can fail

The answer to your fuel gauge questions is no, you're not the only one. I have noticed mine do that, 7 bars initially and then to where I think it should be. I've also notice that there is only 3ltrs left in the tank with 3 bars showing, that is if the tank is 18ltrs.

Ta. Nice to know I'm not too special.

I didn't get the fuel pump replacement - maybe next time?

Can someone tell me more about the Fuel Pump updates on the 17 SDR's? Im not having any problems, and never take my bike to the dealer ( I do all my own work) but I am curious as to the 3 recalls being mentioned here? Obviously my Dealer hasnt contacted me, nor did they say anything when I went down their to have them document tank paint quality issues, so I'd like some info on these 3 recalls before I proceed.

Im not having any issues, though the Fuel Gauge is useles at start up and for the 1st mile or so....I just mentally try to keep track of the level.

I have a feeling these recalls are why the sdr was so late in the US. I think they were taking care of this stuff before we took delivery.

Fry, from what I was told, it's something to do with the openings in the fuel pump not being big enough causing over pressuring within the fuel pump and then causing it to prematurely wear out. To me, if the fuel isn't getting out, it's not getting to the injectors. I was assured there is no risk of damaging the bike by continuing to use it until the recalls are done.

My friends also has a 2017 1290 SDR and he dealer (different to mine) has not mentioned any of these recalls to him either. KTM website does not list them.

Maybe I have "the special bike" lol.
