SAS gone

Post by HDKAWKTM » Tue Mar 21, 2017 11:16 pm

Not bad at all taking the SAS junk and charcoal canister off. I dont think its 5 lbs worth like I have read in places but it sure cleans the look up for sure. I used the 6mm existing hose that was removed and plugged them off so as to make balance of the throttle bodies easier to access. The Rotty video is great on youtube especially on how the hard to see connectors disengage

It's stated that the SAS removal saves 0.5kg, 500 grams or 1.1lb. Pretty sure this includes the charcoal canister too.

Haven't weighed mine, but 500 grams seems about right.

Hi folks. What benefits will I gain, if I remove the sas of my bike.
Cheers Gareth.

rapidgaz,

only fresh air going into your engine. I had read somewhere that it would reduce the exhaust popping on de-acceleration and it sure seems to have done that on mine. After I removed the cat and had the evo map loaded I had some popping and have not heard it so far but have not had a chance to ride very many miles on it. It does seem smoother plus it cleans up the look of the engine which is a plus as well.

Cheers hdk. To do or not. That is the question.

not massive benefits but i remove mine to tidy up the engine , its looking alot better now but my main reason to remove was to remove canister under the seat. I have a GT and canister under the seat took so much space that you cant put anything under seat, now i can even fit a tyre repair kit and the full ktm tool kit.

I think in Europe the 14-16 models didn't have one fitted, it's only the 17 onwards that will have?

ktm definitely has canister in all the models but not America, they don't care about the environment so much

It's like that in Australia too. Even our new enduro bikes come De-smogged! Love it. :D

Maybe they work it out per capita and overall carbon footprint ? So less people = less restrictions :?:

Here in the USA we have the cannister (charcoal) and its under the seat lock to the rear of the lock slightly. Tancaker, America does not care about the enviornment? Joke right? As for me, I am no tree hugger but we have many on the nut job liberal side in DC

Put about 100 miles on it today and zero popping coming from the exhaust with the SAS gone. Very pleased with doing the removal, well worth the few hours of work and was really easy.

Tancakar's head is apparently so far up his own arse, that he's never heard of "California"...
