Modding snorkels???

Post by Drnick » Mon Dec 19, 2016 11:30 pm

Is there a link to "modding snorkels" ? I've seen this before
I assume it's a "Kev mod",but I can't seem to find it?,
Something about cutting open the back or front of
The air snorkel that goes into the airbox?

There's a snorkle inside the stock airbox ? I didn't even bother to look because I was in such a hurry to get the POS off the bike. :?

I cut the holes in the back of the snorkel because of water entry when riding in the rain, the intakes are very restricted on these snorkels & the Dyno shows the motor wants fast air that is why the Rottweiler air box works so well.

If you don't ride in the rain with the STD air box I would remove them for max gains.

Thanks Kev,that cleared up that confusion,I'll be cutting out the front of snorkels,as I DON'T ride in the rain,
And if I get caught in it,I'll bring duct tape :o

In Austria there will be soon a Kit for the 1290sdr an the results are very good.
Its Not the more air intake that gives the Power... The Resonance is very important

Looks good, you will need to remove the sound deadening on the under side of the fuel tank otherwise it will be sucked against that filter.

I never went with this mod as I thought there was not enough air gap between the top of the filter air box & the lower side of the fuel tank, I see you have used a flat plate to get around this, how much air gap is above the velocity stacks the gap around the top of the stack must be a min of the diameter of the stack otherwise it will alter the air flow been drawn into the stack?

I looked into this mod in 2014: viewtopic.php?f=29&t=6511

There come New Stack very short, Look at this Story.
Under the fuel Tank dont must flow air to the k&n, the original vote disturb the power
In the under Range of powerband,
The resonance wave passes through the filter and is broken so that the disturbing influence falls away. And the short stack gives you even more power

The same disturbing come from the snorkels, when you Cut a hole in it you make the disturbing influence a Little Bit better and you have a Little more power.

Thanks for that, High Score did a lot of work on the 990's as well, nice to see he is still playing on the Dyno & with the 1290's.

Here are the lower stacks I tested a few years back on the 1290.

Same bike same day same Dyno with different stack combinations in a Rottweiler air box. Testing 100mm 80mm & 40mm stacks.

Yes they are the very first set ever made by Rottweiler December 2014, I had the 40mm stacks for a year before they came to market I asked Chris to make me a set to Dyno test so I could see what the motor did with the different length stacks with no A/F ratio correction.

Yellow 40 X 40 all top end good for the track.
Green 80 X 80
Blue 100 x 80
Red 100 X 100

Cant read the peak numbers what are the results in HP?

As a comparison here are the runs for the standard 100 X 100 stacks V 40 x 40 stacks with slight A/F ratio corrections.

Stock 155 hp at rear wheel
Short stacks k&n at the top 165 hp without snorkels and Open Box over the stock airfilter

With snorkels the high power is less 3hp

Are 155 Stock and 172hp rear wheel power or Engine power?
172 rear wheel are an beautiful result

The 100x100 Stacks dont work nice in the Rottweiler vs. The shorter stacks
