1290 PCV Power Commander

The SMT was the only bike I have messed with the ECU, and only because we were spoilt with TuneECU, Kev and others.
I can not justify $$ of the full Akra, so would like to install aftermarket decat pipe, slip on, DNA filter and remove SAI. Noise and looks; extra few HP a bonus but hardly needed.

I need to get some stupid questions out of the way, and the answers may help others.
PCV - do you fit it to the bike with the intention of installing different maps to match mods like I did with TuneECU?
Do you need a PCV fitted to alter A/F on a dyno?
Does the PCV upset KTM/aftermarket warranties so needs to be removed before warranty work (along with "non-KTM approved" exhaust and filter, SAI)?
If so, by removing the PCV does the bike then automatically revert to the original map?
The exhaust, etc is straight forward, but how time consuming/difficult is it to remove/re-install the PCV?

Do you need a PCV fitted to alter A/F on a dyno? At this stage a PCV might be your only option

If so, by removing the PCV does the bike then automatically revert to the original map? A PCV corrects the PWM signal to the injector leaner or richer, if a zero PCV map is loaded it will not affect the orginal ECU mapping, if you remove the PCV the bike will be standard again
The exhaust, etc is straight forward, but how time consuming/difficult is it to remove/re-install the PCV? One speed sensor connector, 2 injector connectors, + & neg wire, 2 ignition coil connectors if iyt has ignition timing on it.

Thanks Kev (again), with the SMT I messed about for months pulling the bike apart and not as motivated this time around.
With the 1290 I have a 5 year warranty to consider.
In any case, for me the bike is a more refined base with plenty of performance and features. Just fiddling around the edges and spend more time riding it.
Just looking to get parts together and spend a day doing it in one hit.
Hopefully by then you guys will have some PCV maps and/or I can get a Dyno.

Kev, looking to fit an exhaust (mix and match - Bodis decat and Ixil slip on) and DNA air filter.
When it comes time to get the PCV, is it worthwhile getting the Autotune? Dyno's are few and far between where I am.
Reason I ask, this may be a combo that does not turn up for a while in the shared maps, and I guess I will need to start with one that is close.
Sorry about all the PCV questions, but still a bit Greek to me, and trying to plan a simple setup that can be reverted to stock every 12 months prior to dealer visits.

I would recommend a Auto Tune A/T-300, it will allow for a closer map than a shared map & the good thing it is transferable to any bike that runs a PCV.

That might get complex and expensive. For big twins you need different fuel maps for each cylinder. The AT-300 only has a single sensor so you'll need two of them + exhaust sensors + wiring + somewhere to put 3 x dynojet modules + maybe a way to delete the stock sensors without error conditions being created. Also (I'm new to KTM so don't know but) you may still need to open the mapping in the ECU before the power commander can take affect (?)

A fair bit of time and money involved. Best to let the dust settle for a while unless you like being at the bleeding edge, IMHO.

The AT-300 comes with it's own 2 X widbands sensors, you can map any twin with on custom PCV map but you will have better results mapping each cylinder. You only need a PCV + Autotune to map each cylinder at home on these KTM's, fit the O2 eliminator not an Optimizer like you have on your Aprilia, on the Dyno we use Tunelink software + a PCV to map each cylinder. We have been using the AT-300 + PCV + O2 eliminator or turn off the O2 sensor for a few years on the 990 SMT/SMR's.

I have my AT-300 ready to go on my 1290 18mm inserts welded in, just waiting for the PCV to arrive.

So do i need to purchase O2 eliminators to run the PCV and AT-300 or will the kit come with them?

Probably have to wait and see. That topic was a source of some debate, even on a 7 year old bike when I did mine. I heard a multitude of different opinions from experienced riders, technicians, mechanics and Dynojet themselves.

In the end I got it fitted and working and the motor didn't blow up, so all was good. But it's worth checking carefully, hopefully we can get a consensus for this model

What I have been told directly from Dynojet the PCV will come with O2 eliminators.

One less item for the shopping list for the mods I promised myself i wouldn't do this time around :roll:
Note to self: stop getting ideas off the internet and leave the bike alone. Or buy a Honda.

I followed this advice with my (current) SMT, been very pleased with the results. But, to this day, the lower rpm at small throttle % continue to adjust. I was forewarned the target AFR at this range would be a challenge if I followed Dyno Tune's recommendations.

Eventually I may install a PCV on the 1290 and transfer the A/T-300 over. Replacing the stock O2 sensors with the A/T Lambas required a bit more modification than I'm comfortable with, had a dyno guy carry this out (not quite 'plug-n-play) "18mm inserts welded in on the 1290", ugh!

By now I've got a bit better understanding about Kev's priorities, 'let 'er breathe' (airbox/filter), SAS removal & covers, exhaust, then managing A/F through the PCV, O2 eliminators and the A/T module. Sounds about right?

You got it, no use throwing air in & out if you can't remap the 1290, I like my fuelling spot on & have been waiting for a tunning tool, hope to have a solution tomorrow.

Well done Kev. Fantastic job!!!

I've noticed some funny things with the switch accessory plug too - when you turn off the ignition the plug drops to about 6.5 volts for about 20 seconds.
