Replacing 17mm chain tension bolt.

Post by slowdown » Thu Aug 02, 2018 8:31 pm

Hi all-

Over the course of countless chain adjustments, sprocket removals, etc, I have started to round off the bolt that we loosen in order to adjust chain tension. Part # 13 here: https://www.motosport.com/motorcycle/oe ... am=Chassis

I always seem to be approaching it at a funny angle, and so have had my 17mm socket slip off several times as I'm torquing it to spec. I'm gonna order an Abba skylif to make this job easier in the future. Anyway, a replacement bolt is cheap, and I'd like to replace it next time I have the bike taken apart.

In the past I've never taken this bolt all the way out. It kind of seems like it is somehow self retained within the rear hub? I havent tried that hard to remove it, but it seems like maybe its not meant to come all the way out, but rather just loosen and tighten. Is it really as simple as just completely losening and then removing the bolt and replacing it with a new one? Is there anything special I need to know?

I would very much like the answer to this question as well. I'll check into it and get back to ya.

Nothing special you need to know. Bolt comes out completely and does right back up again! No drama, no fanfare.
