Oil Leak on New 1290
I noticed a few drops of oil when I first got my new bike home. I didn't think much of it. Maybe the dealer dribbled it when prepping it for sale. It's a 2016 so it had been sitting around awhile. I put a tray under it to see if it was still leaking and if I could spot from where. I saw only one drop before I took it in to get its first service. Now I'm seeing a few drops per day. It's coming from the bolt area behind the oil filter. I'm not sure if that's the engine case or if there's a separate cover for something under there. Pic attached for anyone that might know what that bolt goes to. I've tightened it but that didn't help.

Re: Oil Leak on New 1290
Is it coming from the oil filter cover and running backwards from wind pushing it? If it's actually from that lower bolt the shop is going to have to look at it I think.

No, I can see clearly that the oil filter cover is clean. It's seeping out right from that bolt which is way back from the filter cover. I just don't see what that bolt is holding together.
i will be taking it back to the dealer this week.

Re: Oil Leak on New 1290
Hey TexasSuperDuke I ALSO have a leak on a brand new 2016 Superduke in nearly the exact same area. I brought mine to the dealer and they said don't worry about it looks like lube. However the oil leak persists. I'm trying to diagnose it now. I've tracked the Oil leak all the way up to a hose heading to the radiator.

Re: Oil Leak on New 1290
I haven't had time to bring it back. I am going there tomorrow. I'll let you know, but I'm curious too. I didn't feel any oil behind that area. I haven't had a leaky bike since the 90s.

I really don't want to be without the bike for several days and take it to the dealer if I can't find the source but it's driving me nuts. Hope you have better luck and I look forward to hearing.

FYI Dealer couldn't replicate. Says to take it home. So I take it home, romp on it yesterday with the girlfriend for about 100ish miles put it away and come out to yet another small leak on the garage floor this morning.

Re: Oil Leak on New 1290
That stinks. I meant to get on here and give you my update. My dealer did find the leak after several spray powder applications. It's a cover above the oil filter. Even the mechanic doesn't know what it's for lol. They are ordering a new cover and gasket. I'm bummed I'll be without my brand new bike for another week or two, but I'll be happy if it's leak free. Plus I'm hoping my new exhaust will be here by the time I get it back. I will get a picture of the spot on the bike, and the old cover for you.

Re: Oil Leak on New 1290
I just walked out after not riding for a while and saw a small puddle on the floor of oil. Bike is a mess so it's hard to tell exactly where it's coming from, so I'm going to clean and keep an eye on it, but I think it's the same location. Also a 2016.

Great. Well if you get a picture that would be fantastic. Hopefully it's the same but I'm giving them a phone call again today.

Re: Oil Leak on New 1290
The day I took delivery of my '17 I noticed a puddle of oil after a quick ride on some back roads by the dealer. Was the front valve cover leaking down to the oil filler then on the ground. KTM sent a new gasket overnight for Saturday delivery and the dealer had it ready by noon. No issues since.

My dealer said they ordered the suction pump cover and gasket. It's directly over the oil filter. Hope that helps. I won't have the bike back until this weekend. I'll post a pic then.

Re: Oil Leak on New 1290
OK gents, I got the Duke back. Dealer kept it for 2 weeks. Repaired it, tested it and watched it on the lift. It is leak free so they tell me. The replaced part is the suction pump cover. It's hard to see, but it's next to the oil filter cover. Pic of the part is attached, I could not find it on a parts locator.

FYI it ended up being this same seal. In and out of the dealer in about a week. Didn't cost me a dime. Now it's clean and bone dry.

Re: Oil Leak on New 1290
So.. turns out I had an oil leak AND a coolant leak. Bike has now been at the dealer 1/2 of my ownership.
I'm telling people I clearly had a bike assembled at Friday after lunch but I'm at my wits end with this.
I know this isn't the norm but it's killing all my love for the bike and my eyes are already starting to wander.

Re: Oil Leak on New 1290
I know what you mean. It doesn't matter how many bikes come out great, if you get a dud, you don't want it anymore. I bought a 2006 Rocket 3 Turbo back in May. I rode it home, it had oil and coolant all over it. I haven't seen it since. Dealer is replacing the breather valve, water pump, and bearings in the turbo. I'm not sure I'll even take it home. I may have him sell it or see what he will give on trade.
To come from the other direction my 2015 Ducati Diavel was a pain the first 18 months I owned it, but the past 2 years it's been perfect. So your bike may settle in and be fine once you get these issues resolved.

Re: Oil Leak on New 1290
Just dropped my bike off at the dealer to have the oil leak fixed on that cover behind the oil filter. Tech said he's had a few in for the same service on that cover.
