White spots in oil inspection and on oil cap?

Post by SuperLuke1290 » Wed Aug 31, 2016 12:33 pm

Hello!

I have been having an issue that the top of the oil inspection glass and the oil filler cap is having white spots on it? The oil itself looks fine, but the white spots in the oil keeps appearing when the bike is standing for a few days. Is this an concern? Please look at the attachments.

I do, however, see that the bike is using a little coolant from the expansion tank, but I since the bike is having low mileage, this is completely normal?

The bike runs fine and has no technical issues.

it could just be some extra condensation in the oil? do you do a lot of short trips, and when was the last time you went on a long ride?

I got a bit of water in my 950 crossing a river (well, more like swimming across with the bike in tow) and I changed the oil out a few times. But until I had most of it out and then took a nice long ride (a few hours) that got rid of the last little bit of "milky" oil that was in the system.

just keep an eye on the coolant and see if the oil turns more milky..

Whitish foam is definitely coolant in oil. I would have a dealer look at it.

my bike does the same.uk weather around 12 Celsius if oil dosnt get warmer than 75 Celsius which is my 10 mile ride to work.sometimes I take oil filler cap off when I get to work to let condensation out.a good run with oil up to 100 Celsius usually clears it.

No, it's not.
It could very well be standard condensation from shorter trips.

Mine did that during the colder weather. But now in summer it's clear again. I asked my dealer and he said it was condensation. And my coolant level dropped in the bottle as all the air worked out of the system. Topped it up at first service and it's been steady.
