Hi all,
Opinions wanted.

I'm toying with the idea of changing the subframe to black.

Bike how it is now

And with some photo editing, black subframe.

Thoughts?

1st, your bike and mods are awesome.

I was inline for a White 17 SDR, ended up taking delivery of a Black one (1st one in the dealership) and am glad I did after seeing various white ones online and in person.

To me, a unified look is better, and though I bleed Orange and love the color having mismatched paint colors on the frame looks a bit confusing and disjointed. I prefer all 1 color whether it be black like on my 17 or if the entire frame and subframe was Orange....

All personal preference though.

I wasn't in the market for a SDR, but they had an ex demo all black model, and was going to trade my S3 in on it, but turned out it was already sold.
Then the dealer found one of their other ships just taken in the white model, 2nd hand, with 4000 km's on it.
So I took that, was a considerable amount of new, but otherwise, I would have prefered black.

Going all orange frame, is not for me.

Still undecided about going black or not on the subframe (too much effort to do the whole frame), I wonder how much work is involved to remove the subframe.

Id go all black on frame. Or all Orange, but that's just me.

Subframe removal should be easy.

So u had sound pulses from the Werkes exhaust that made u sick?
That’s pretty alarming, as it’s one of the options I’m considering.

Any further thoughts?

All I can say is after I put the stock exhaust back on, and now the Akra, I stopped getting nausea.
I literally was getting head aches and feeling sick on the stomach.

The bagel didn't help much either, I think that shorty types of exhausts may have the same effect on me, so went with the full length system.

They have cheap second hand subframes on eBay that are all black. To my knowledge there should be no changes between just the subframe from 14-16 and 17. I could be wrong but upon inspection of the two they appear to be identical. You can always pick one up and swap it out and see how you like it. If you don't you can always sell it or possibly have it powder coated KTM orange and see if that possibly changes your mind.

I really dig the orange and white color combo but I think orange and black is slick considering you painted the tank and fairings a darker color scheme.

2014-2016 SDRs in black had black subframe with orange frame. I think it looks great.

Top many options dammit Image.

I'm also considering going the proto wheels with the white subframe.

Here's a mock-up of thatImage

i prefer the look of the wheels in one block colour but not black .i like the contrast between tyre and rim
have you considered the rims a grey colour something in between your tank colour and black
only my thoughts for what there worth

So I just wanted to follow up on this. According to KTM's own parts list, from their website, they claim the subframe is a new part from the older version. However, they look pretty similar. I will have to do a side by side comparison one of these days out of curiosity.

Your bike looks great. I'd leave it as it is now. It will look even better without the big plate holder hanging off the back.
I suspect you may be a serial modder though, and never happy unless your changing stuff . :D

Love the serial modder idea!

Ok I've decided to do the proto wheels, but May go more orange. So more 2/3 orange and 1/3 white. Leave the subframe white.

Got a tail tidy on order, but seems like it's taking years!

Started painting the wheels.
Sneak peek of them baking in the Aussie sun.

Wheels are looking great. I like the more Orange than White scheme too.

Very nice.

Thanks, I haven't actually done the more orange yet, well I've done only a little bit more, I'm considering doing more orange than what it is currently, as I have to sand the wheels down again and re-clear to get it real nice

I think the SE looks good, but I'm also luck being a spray painter by trade, the only cost is materials and my time.....
