2015 Still In Crate - Should I Buy?

Post by StevenT1967 » Sun Aug 06, 2017 3:04 pm

I was shopping for a leftover 2016 when my local dealer tells me he has a 2015 still in the crate he will sell me for $12,000 plus sales tax. That $12,000 includes all fees, including tag and title application. Only extra is my local sales tax. He takes me out to his shop and shows me the crate. Clearly labeled, crate is in good shape, no signs of water damage, etc.
Obviously, that is a great deal. What should I be concerned about with a 2 year old "new" bike? Should fluids be replaced before pick up? What should I look for when inspecting?
My dealer is unpacking and assembling tomorrow and I will be picking up tomorrow afternoon. Any advice would be great!

Congratulations!
I would not worry very much, it's a 3 model year old bike now as the '18s will be out soon.
That being said, it will still have it's FULL 12 month/ 12,000 mile warranty...wear it out.

Buy a lottery ticket, you're on a roll. Enjoy your new bike.

I was shopping leftovers last month and you could probably come within $500. of that price for a 2016, but they're the same bike so if it's the right color I would buy it and put the coin towards the acc's I want.
Enjoy

2016 models have an upgraded processor. It is most noticeable when dealing with wheelie control. They also added cornering abs. Not sure what bikes are bring what price, but this would be a consideration for me.

Lol, I had originally typed out a lengthy post entailing reasons not to buy it, until I read the last line in your post.

I hope it all works out. ;)

Just picked up a brand new 15 model for $17000 (aussie) 2 days ago. A 2017 model is about $25000+.I know it is 2 models old but I am absolutely lovin it. Enjoy the bike.

I bought a left over 2015 five months ago and I have had 2 or 3 minor problems with the bike but for some reason I love this bike more than any bike I have ever owned, Including my RSV4 which I thought was my dream bike. I can't get enough of it :P

The 2016 gt has cornering abs but the 2016 R doesn't despite what a review or two stated, bummer since I bought a 2016 leftover and love 'free stuff'.
Enjoy

Where are you getting this info from? There is no difference between 2015 and 2016 electronics despite what you read on few forums and website. I have called KTM and compared each module between the models and their are the same part number

Yeah, pretty sure about that too. Not sure why people spread rumors. Maybe makes them feel better that they bought 2016 ;)

5 minute mark it talks about the upgraded processor concerning wheelie control.
9:30 minute mark it talks about the lean angle abs

"For 2016, it should be noted that the Super Duke is now outfitted with Cornering-ABS and was not financially penalized for the upgrade, carrying the same retail price as the 2015 model."

Exactly why you shouldn't believe them. Superduke never got cornering ABS, those guys have no idea what they were talking about. You think KTM won't advertise that on their website! Not even the "SE" got it.

As I said I also called KTM specifically to asked about since that was the only place anyone mentioned anything about.

If it doesn't have it, it doesn't have it. If you own a 16 I'll trust you. That said I have read similar reports other places. I can only assume that the gt specs were wrongly quoted.

Maybe you should check yourself? Part numbers of electronics and modules between 2015, 2016 and 2016 SE are the same. By the rest who have 2016 and know there is no corner abs on 2016 and by calling KTM and ask. That should do it

I guess I get that you're upset, but don't put that I me. Two reputable publications posted that info. Want to know what? One of the salesmen that tried to sell me a bike qouted it. If you think it is my responsibility to check random part #s of bikes I don't own? Well, that will just take the fun out of bikes for me. Sorry, no.

I am not upset, just helping people who are debating which one they should get. Those are not small changes and totally make sense if you have the option to go with one that does have cornering ABS. What you should have posted that you heard about it and point to the YouTube not trying to sound so confident.
