Opinion's or Thought's wanted

Post by Moggz » Fri Apr 28, 2017 10:32 am

Just a question that i cant find a decent answer to lol. Trawling internet auction sites and bike sales etc and there are loads of sdr 1290 for sale with really low miles on the clock. Why ? Are these superdukes too much for riders once they feel all that grunt on tap? Are they scared of the bike? Scared of losing their licence ? Cmon guys lol. What you reckon?

ok lol maybe i should have said loads here in uk! How many used superdukes are there available in other countries? Is there a wide varied market for second hand used ktm's or are they really difficult to get hold of?

There are about 6 on eBay right now also. Not sure why. Most with full systems. I'm thinking that these are the guys who buy a new bike every few years regardless of how much they like it.

^^ Frick. 4 that I seen. One new 2016 for 14999 OBO.
Not sure why so many. It sure isn't because of the abundance or super low price on the 2017s

We only get 1 year warranty's here and I know many will only ride covered bikes. I wonder how many traded for the GT when it came out. The APE or s1kr may be better track weapons also, who knows? I managed 9000 miles in that many months and can't imagine replacing it.
Enjoy

I've started to see quite a few '14, '15, & '16 SDRs for sale in the SF Bay Area recently. I assumed it was because these owners wanted to get a '17, but there's definitely something to your theory. I bet a good number of buyers love the bike and run out and buy it without test riding it, but when they twist that throttle they scare themselves. :o Definitely not a beginner bike

I know before I bought mine I seen one on ebay and it was local less than 20 miles from home and I had been looking for a used one since no dealers were coming off the 17k plus price. I had looked at a few used SDR across the country but when adding shipping it was not as good a deal. The next morning I was going to put a bid in and it was gone. The ebay user name was a clue since the same name was also a name of our local Harley dealer in the same town of the SDR that was now pulled from ebay. I went over to the dealer that day and sure enough it was one of the young owners that in fact I had bought in 2008 a Night Rod Special vrod and back in 2011 a new Ultra Limited that we still own. The SDR was still in his shop but buyer was on his way from Virginia to take it home. That sucked since one was so close and from someone that I knew and trusted and it had slipped by. Long story short guys and true, I asked why he was getting rid of it with so many accessories and all and at such a good price? He looked me in the eye and said it would get him killed! I said its all in how you respect any ride and all should be. He then said he had just become a dad and this bike ran up his odds of getting hurt or worse. That is true and I can see his point but I still wanted and got one. I don't think there are many SDRs for sale imho. Maybe 3-4 on all of ebay? How many are registered in the US? Bet that for sale percentage is low. I am keeping mine, " sure its dangerous " but any intersection here is SC is more so, in a car truck or walking

Must be a uk thing only then as there way more than 3 or 4 on ebay uk most only just having had first service. As for the sdr getting its rider killed then surely its the same for most bikes? Had my sdr for 2 years now and couldnt see myself replacing it for anything else except the sdr 2.0 lol

I'm baffled why anyone would sell a bike that's barely past its first service, unless it was a self-destructing, hideously uncomfortable gutless mal-handling dog, which the SDR clearly is not, or unless they just enjoy throwing money down the drain.
You can't possibly form a judgement on a bike before its even run in.

I admit I was mildly disappointed with the handling of mine when I first got it. It was soft and wallowy but a proper set-up sorted it. I'd never condemn a bike's handling without trying to get it right and if I didn't know how I'd take it to someone who did.

It is a lot of dosh. Maybe some people got seduced by the hype and just bought a bike they couldn't really afford and jumped ship when reality set in.

I was interested in a k1600gtl and was alarmed by the amount of used bikes on the market so doing my due diligence I joined the forum (like you) to get the real story and many just had money to burn to replace their bikes every time the warranty ran out and many others traded for the next big thing from bmw the r1200rt, or in our case I could see someone trading a 2014 or15 SDR for the factory 1100 APE, either way it doesn't detract from these bikes and I don't have any buyers remorse although I could see trading my 2015 for a leftover 2018 in a couple years after the first run bugs are sorted out.
Enjoy

I think it's the hype in the UK. I've just picked up a '14 model with only 4000 miles. Saw another couple at dealers with same low mileage. Mines is totally standard. Still has SAS on it. I saw this with the 98 R1 and the 01 GSXR1000. People buy them and then find they don't use them much or are scared of them so sell them to free up cash.........until the next must have bike comes out
