Will be buying soon

Post by joeboy69 » Sun Dec 02, 2018 6:05 pm

Hi all

My primary bike is a BMW K1200S, bought new in 2005. Use it for weekends and longer rides with the wife for a night away.

4 years ago wife said she wanted to have own bike so we bought 390 Duke. I started using it to commute and she used it to get her license and we started doing short trips on separate bikes.

We sold the 390 with the plan of buying a 790 for me to commute and her to use. But she is starting to like the BMW so it opens the option for me to go for a 1290. I will appreciate advice on:

1. Is it a ball ache to commute with?
2. I’m not sure what extras are already included in the South African models, but which would you recommend? I’m thinking tail tidy and a slip-on to start with but maybe rather the track pack etc?
3. If we start going away with both bikes over weekends, are there luggage options available for the 1290SDR or should I rather start looking at the GT
4. Any significant changes between 2018 and 2019 like the GT or can I try to save a bit with the older model!

Now let me go read more posts!
Joe

I commute on mine. Love it most of the time and miss my multi some. It doesnt have a windscreen so you get the full force of the wind. But believe me. It is one of the baddest bikes i have ever ridden. The fun factor outweighs wind. So much power. Very nice riding position. It would only compliment your BMW. Unlock the quick shifter whatever package that is. I went with competition werkes for exhuast. Loud. You can bolt on more power but it really doesnt need it. If thats a thing. Tail tidy for sure.

I commute as well. If you are doing more than 20 miles (maybe less), at 75 and up, put a little screen on it, or look at the GT. I had to change the bars on mine. The sweep was too much.

All said. The bike is the shit. Comfortable, handles decent (I want to stiffen the front), and power wheelies in 2nd from 50 to 70mph (that's bone stock). Not a great track bike, but I nominate it for best badass streetbike.

Thanks for the feedback. My commute is around 10 miles but will possibly put a screen on for the longer weekend trips

Pulled the trigger on this earlier today. Tyre pressure monitor already giving me an indication that I must start reading the manual! Hopefully the first 1000km goes quick Image

The Bluetooth pairing with iPhone was easy enough but can’t come right SENA headset. Anybody else managed to pair a SENA? Maybe I’m just missing a trick somewhere
