I changed from Conti's to PR3s...and...WOW!

If you haven't changed to these tyres then do! So much more confidence. I got caught out in heavy rain yesterday and it was the same a if I was riding in the dry. Not a twitch. Even my mate said on the Scala he couldn't believe how much water the tyres were displacing.

I changed both boots at 9,000, now at 10,500 -- still showing as if untouched. Late June, off for a 2000 mile round trip to Switzerland so will see what wear an tear will be done then.

So much confidence!

Buy peeps..buy!

Common. You probably have a good 5 or 10 miles left on those. What's your rush?

You have no idea. It took me almost 10min to decide if I should take the bike to work (35mil each way) or not. It was such a beautiful day, but I couldn't do it. I guess since I'm getting older I also get somehow a little-bit wiser. :D

I've finally given up on the Contis and want new hoops this weekend. I got quoted by a local bikeshop for PR3s - £120 front, £160 rear and £48 fitting = £333 all in. Seems high to me or is that about right?

cheers,

Ludicrously high!

FWR in Kennington will do the hoops for £239 a pair, or £270ish ride-in-ride-out.

I got my PR3's fitted yesterday for £280 all in (but I had £60 credit from Pirelli that came off that as well.) I wouldn't pay more than £226 delivered (easy to get online from many places) plus £10-15 a wheel fitting.

After 1500 miles of commuting and French/Belgian autoroute my PR3s were starting to look slightly squared off.

A 500 mile (mostly) motorway-free round trip to Wales seems to have rounded them off again. Hurrah for wiggles!

Kennington's a bit of a trek for me (live in Chiswick) but now got a £295 quote all in from HGB / Discount Motorcycle Tyres in Ruislip which is only about 20 min away so I reckon I'll go there. They also have them in stock so can get it sorted Saturday morning...

thanks!

Decided to go with a fellow forum mate's recommendation after a dodgy review or two for the place in Ruislip. FWR quoted me £265 fitted so that'll do me!

Thanks ogden!

Yr wlcm. You'll find the odd dodgy review of FWR around the internet as well, such is the way of things, but they've seen me right for ten years or so, have done me a couple of cash favours over the years, and the mrs loves them because they look after her scooter whenever it conks out.

FWR were brilliant, quick and efficient - highly recommended!

And the PR3s... what can I say? I didn't believe you lot harping on about how much difference a set of tyres would make but even now while I'm still taking it easy scrubbing them in they are much more stable, progressive and just give so much more confidence than the stock hoops! Amazing.

Just had PR3's fitted in Inverness.
Wasn't planned, thought i would get the weekend out of my Sportsmarts but had canvas showing at 4.30pm about 20 miles from Ullapool.
managed to track down a shop for new tyres the next day.
Only tyres they had to fit were the PR3's so the choice was made for me.
Happy with them so far but £325 fitted was a bit hard to swallow.
Off to italy in 3 weeks time so I will get my monies worth out of them.

I've just put 3000 miles on a set in Europe and I can't fault them. There's loads of grip in the wet and they heat up very quickly. Other bikes were struggling in the wet but they gave plenty of feel on the hairpins. A Ducati had a set fitted and he rated them as well so they're not just good for the SMT. After 3000 miles there's barely any sign of wear - mind you they didn't spend too much time upright.

Finally wore my stock tires down to the wear bars. Took about 6500 miles. Just ordered a set of PR3s.

Had the PR3's mounted this afternoon but no time to try them out.

Wasted too much time getting the wheels off. This is the first time I've pulled the front and I missed one small detail in the owner's manual that led to a lot of head scratching until I finally bothered to go back and reread the manual.

Then I was too embarrassed by how dirty my wheels were so I had to clean them before taking them.

Well, just ordered a replacement rear PR3, after just over 5K miles the tyre is wearing a little thin now in the center and just squaring off more than I'd like...not bad considering the OEMs were done after 3000 miles and that included running the bike in for 600 miles.

Here's how the tyre looks now (clickable thumbnail):

The new rear is costing me £144 fitted by HMT in Norwich, getting it done tomorrow lunchtime and it's just opposite the new KFC drive thru there :)
