simple luggage answer

Post by yossarian » Wed Apr 09, 2014 7:25 pm

After reading the board about luggage I am a bit concerned that there is no easy "OEM" or close setup for the SMT for good hardcase luggage. I bought the Givi 46 topcase, which seems to fit ok. On the down side, it seems loose on the back and adding the extra bracket seems less than optimal.

I love the bike, but am wondering if I need to bump up to the 1190 because it seems unclear that KTM is going to support this bike with clear OEM or partner parts. Great bike, but that would be a long term concern for me.

Any thoughts would be helpful

I did not think these fit the SMT? They look good if that is that case?

Anyone else use them?

I've got the Trax luggage. The topbox has been on the bike for two years now and other than having to replace the locks once (not exactly hard or expensive) it's been flawless. I've got the panniers too, though I only put them on when I need them because they make the bike a bit too wide for enthusiastic filtering.

I've done numerous trips with them fitted, including London to Istanbul and back, so can quite confidently claim to have extensively road-tested them.

The Trax luggage from SW Motech works perfectly on the SMT

"Carrier plate 603.12.927.044 is required for mounting on 1190 Adventure/R"

Would suggest the answer is yes.

I bought the Travel edition in 2011 that came with KTM badged TRAX side boxes and added a GIVI top box. I think it looks good and certainly works well. Need inner bags for the boxes as they leak but apart from that have done thousands of miles round Europe with no problems. They are wider than the bars though so did take a wing mirror off filtering in Italy. OOOPS!!
