SMT Luggage support removal

Post by Johnny Mac » Wed Jan 29, 2014 7:27 pm

Looking to remove the heat shields and soft luggage supports on my 2010 SMT to show off the carbon Leo Vince's.

Heat shields are straight forward but there seems to be a bit of work in removing the luggage supports.

Any advice? 8-)

So I did some digging and it looks like the supports are there for a reason

I guess the grinder would be the only way to "modify" the rear end to remove the supports. I'd like to have the option to put them back on tho so that's not an option. Second set of hangers maybe?

A lot tidier without the shields

Just checked an online parts catalogue there now, nearly £80 a side and then take the grinder to it. Might give the local KTM dealer a quick call and see what he reckons.

Personally I think it looks better with the shields on. I know they're great looking cans, but unless you are going to remove the entire luggage supports, then the bike looks better with shields.
This is what I do with mine....

If it is the same design as my SMT 11 plate then you can remove the luggage supports, you'll be needing to buy some parts from the SMR to provide the exhaust mount and brackets to hold the side panels, all the info you need is on here somewhere
