Post by Rjt_smt » Sun Jan 19, 2014 1:12 pm

Hiya!!!

So then, planning on touring a bit, so wondered what luggage you lot recommend - coming from an advanture and a bmw gsa i tend to like hard cases

Wat are your thoughts??

Hi RJT, and welcome to the site.

I've got a Givi setup on my bike, and have the Trekker panniers (32 litre ones I think). They have a reasonable volume and are slim enough not to affect filtering (lane splitting) too much. Don't currently have a topbox but I will need to get one for upcoming trip to Corsica this year, will probably get something around 40 litres, I don't like the topboxes too big, and as there's only me I can get away with slightly smaller luggage.

Here's the current setup:

Looking good! How is that screen? Make a lot of difference?

I've got the KTM ally boxes on mine, rebadged SW-Motech Trax. I've had the topbox on for 22000 miles and the panniers for at least 10000 of those, and never had cause for complaint.

That said, the locks are a bit shit, replaced them last year, but other than that, spot on.

Thanks. To be honest, I can't really say as that's how I got the bike last year. I've yet to try it with the original screen to see how it compares, but that setup does still have some buffeting around the helmet at high ish (60+) speeds and above, so it's not perfect by a long way. I'm 5' 8", and was gonna try the standard screen, and then maybe I'll invest in a Palmer Products as I've had a screen from Ian before on my Buell and it worked great.

Yeah, that was back in August last year when I picked it up, can't wait for more of the same.

I have a Krauser topcase. I like it because the "K-Wing" mount bolted directly to the stock luggage rack. (although two of the holes needed a little drill bit action to properly line up.)

It's great for daily commuting and it doesn't add any width to the bike so I can still split lanes when navigating through the congested bowels of the bay area during traffic constipation.

When I take trips I use the stock luggage and/or a waterproof roll top duffel.

Here's my bike without the top case. The K-wing is pretty low profile.

Trax Luggage

Durable, big enough for all kit, very easy to fit and remove
