I thought this looked pretty interesting and they build for the SMT as well.

Notice it has a couple of options with one being a vertical type bar for adding a bag or
also a option to make it a grab rail.

I had one on my old GSXR 1000, it was excellent.

I have had the ventura rack system on many bikes over the years and they are very good. On sports bikes that have limited luggage options they are hard to beat but the SMT has some decent luggage options utilising the existing luggage rack and pannier brackets.

I have always hated top boxes but the KTM rebadged SHAD options don't look too bad on a bike like the SMT(relatively speaking) and it is bloody nice hitting rain and not worrying about wet clothes and electronics anymore. Add the bonus of it being lockable, unclips in seconds and the bracket is practically invisible when the topbox is not being used and I am converted.

Prices on the KTM topboxes are surprisingly reasonable as well, especially compared to the panniers which hold next to nothing and are ridiculously expensive.
