Trax locks

Post by ogden » Thu May 30, 2013 10:44 am

Anyone had any problems with the locks on the KTM/Trax ally luggage?

Mine have started falling apart. Or, at least, the lock mechanisms themselves are OK, but the dust shutters are working loose and cover plates are falling off, which leaves them rather exposed.

I've ordered a new set, since it's only 20 quid or so for six, but it seems a bit crap, not least as one of the locks has only been used about ten times.

Og

No problems with mine although I did change them over a couple of months ago when I got the Trax topbox (all the locks now match).

I have spare ones now if you want?

The two on my topbox were like that. The faceplate's completely come off one of them, and the dust-shutter with it, and now the lock is super-smooth but has no protection from the elements.

The new set's arrived, so I might fit all six tomorrow while I'm sorting out the brakes. It's not like they're hard to fit. A bit rubbish after just 17 months of use though.

I think that's what made mine fall apart. The silicone lube did a great job of keeping the mechanism slippery, but also caused the faceplate to slip off the barrel.

The pack does say to only use graphite as a lubricant, so I might pay attention to that next time.

I caved in and bought a can of graphite lube for the new locks. Next job, fitting them.

They took me about 15 minutes to fit and only cost 20 quid, so not the end of the world.
