Givi TRK52 Trekker top case?

Post by zimm17 » Thu Aug 02, 2012 6:18 pm

Anyone seen a Givi TRK52 top case? Wonder how it would look on the SMT? Looks like the style would be ok vs. the bubbly ones.

Well I pulled the trigger and ordered a Givi top case to bolt to my rack. This will replace both my saddle bags and my wolf tail pack. After going out to my bike and finding my helmet soaked from rain in my tail bag, my jacket wet from the saddle bag, I said screw it, I want a huge-ass lockable, waterproof trunk. While it's gigantic (23.5" wide, 18" tall), it's still a foot narrower than my saddlebags, which is an issue in the narrow motorcycle parking spots at work. Then I can keep my rain gear in there, throw in my backpack so I don't have to wear it. And when I get to work, I can keep my helmet and jacket in there. Hell I think my roadcrafter suit will fit in it. The other cool thing is I can push a button and the thing pops right off the bike so it'll look normal if I ever do a ride for fun.

I'm also using another member's suggestion and got the SW-Motech mounts that I can drill and bolt right to the KTM rack without buying anything else. Only $20.

I'm sure it'll be huge and ugly, but seriously it has to look better than my current setup. Stock saddlebags are 36" wide- the Trekker 52 is 23.5" wide (600mm).

I don't know, but what I need is one big compartment. To get to work, I throw in my loaded backpack (won't fit in any of my 3 bags). When I'm at work, I want to put my jacket/helmet or even my aerostich roadcrafter suit in there. Can't do that with the three bags either.

I mounted it last night with the SW-motech mounting kit. Works great. Tried it out going to work today, couldn't tell it was back there. Not the prettiest thing, but with a push of the button, it comes off for normal riding. For just the commute to/from work and it looks like it'll work perfect. It holds my rain gear, backpack with work stuff/lunch, and motorcycle cover. When I get off the bike, it holds my size 46 Roadcrafter suit, or if I wear a normal jacket, that and the helmet. Waterproof and lockable too!

The SW-motech mount needs 9" between the mounting spindles, and 8.9" from a line connecting the spindles to the locking part of the mount on the rear of the rack. I need to get some longer bolts because of the thickness of the plastic KTM base, but that will be easy fix.

Here's the mount:

Did you have to unmount the rack to do the drilling or was it possible to drill and install in place ? Thnx

I left it in place. You have to be real careful measuring the spacing of the two pins- I was off by 1/8" inch and had to make one of the holes oblong to line up. Washer on the bottom made it okay.

Be careful, I think the 46 and 52 might have different spacing.
