What is the part number for the top plate for that Gobi top box? In the KTM catalogue I can only find the top plate for the box for the Adventure and not the SMT, for the SMT it only shows the aluminium one rather than the hard plastic Gobi item like you have pictured.

I mounted the KTM support for the alublack top case. Given that I wanted to keep the handles, I mounted those of the SMR (the kit with the support has parts for mounting with and without handles).

Don,
Do you have part numbers for the plate and grab handles please. I'm having trouble finding them.
Cheers

Not for the grab handles, which are "spare parts" - not "power_parts". These are the ones of the SMR (for sure until 2011, do not know how they are in the MY 2012)

The plate is: 60112927044 http://shop.ktm.com/powerparts/viaggi/t ... hwarz.html

The cases have an inner and outer shell, the water is stored in the space between them.

You can't mount the top case with losing the handles although you can fit SM handles instead.

The bags are available here:

2014 KMT 690 Enduro R and 2014 KTM 1190 Adventure R

Because you can never have too much of a great thing!

HI, was just wondering, these cases come with the water jacket in the lining don't they ? Are you going to fit the taps ?

I fit the taps on mine. Easy enough. Just drill a hole in between the two screws mount a thicker gasket and screw it on. 5 minutes...
I guess I'm going to cut away at the plate for the trax top box and use it so I can mount the gobi top box. Unless I can find another plate that works. I suppose some spacers would work, give enough space for the locking clamp to slip under and close.

Thought I'd update an old thread here with my latest "upgrade". I found these aluminum cases while surfing around on the ADVrider forum: http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=989588 $239 US delivered to my back door!

Even though they looked too good to be true, given the outrageous prices for the other brands, I thought I'd give 'em a try. Gotta say I'm quite pleased with them. Construction is solid and square, and they are gloss black powder coated inside and out. Locking latches are top quality with 4 keys, all alike.

Drawbacks: 1)The finish actually matches the bike fairly well. Just like the bike they are nice and shiny, but when you get up close you see a few tiny bumps and pimples. 2)Made in China (guess I should have expected that...) 3)I don't think they are available overseas where most of you are.

Image

Image

They don't come with any mounting hardware of any kind, so you are left to your own imagination to hang them. I already had the quick detaching Givi mounts so I adapted to them. Worked out real well. I used nylon bar stock to make the hangers so they won't rattle, squeak or rust.

Image

I removed the factory decals and applied some striping cut out for me by a local sign shop.

Image

The boxes look big but are really no larger overall than the Givi E36 bags I had on there:

Ready2Ride,
Thanks for the link. I lurk on ADV but not nearly enough. Now that you've had the boxes for a few months (and did a wonderful job fab'ing up the mounts), what's your opinion of them?

Picked up a Givi Maxia 55 off a friend for cheap who sold his Super Tenere. It's enormous (2 full face helmets) but should complement the stock soft cases for my initial ride of ~4k miles to get the bike home. I don't have a Monokey rack specific to the SMT, but I've the 3 attachment bungs that will be drilled and mounted to the stock tail rack. I mocked it up briefly on a friend's SMT, fingers crossed it works or there's gonna be a lot of bungies...
I'll post pics once it's on.

The short and sweet answer to your question would be to state that I sold my Givi side cases. I'll gladly buy another pair if the need ever arises.I took a chance on these because a)I didn't know if I would like the top loaders, and b)when you pay a fraction of the normal price for something...
The top loading feature is OK but I need to rig up some sort of tether to allow the lid to hang from the side so I don't have to look for a place to set it.

I've currently got a huge trunk mounted as well, but I find that it adversely affects the handling when it's loaded. (If you've got the room you're going to take it with you, right?) I have a 33L Monokey top case I've thought about using on this bike, and I like your idea of using the Givi hardware directly on the factory luggage rack. I be interested in seeing how this works out for you.

4,000 mile ride home? Sounds like fun. I hope you don't need the bungies. :D

It works! You have to shim the triangular latch part up a bit, but It does work. It places the trunk a bit too far forward for passenger comfort though...
