SMT vs SMR engine

Post by Joe990roma » Tue Jun 05, 2018 5:30 pm

Hi

I have an 2011 smt getting close to 80,000km mark. I know someone who is selling an smr engine with 13,000 km and I'm thinking buying for parts. Can anyone tell me any differences between the engines? The electrics would be different if I was to do a straight swap?

Thanks
Joe

Only difference would be if one has ABS and one doesn’t. That would involve changing clocks, speedo rings etc...

So in theory I could just do a straight swap. Use the electrics from smt?

Yep, you’d have to swap the clocks too as clocks are different between models. If I were you though, I’d run your existing engine till it dies and then swap. I’d be curious as to how long it will go.

That's the plan. I will make a post when i get to the 100 thousand mark. Everything that has been broken or been repaired. I have to say though that it is still going strong!

SMR engine now in storage. Any tips for conserving it?

I would pull the plugs and spray in storage spray. I'd find a way to rotate the engine over a few revolutions every couple of months to push some oil around. Clean oil and coolant too.
