2004 ktm 950 cam chain / balancer question..

Post by Chris5 » Tue Apr 24, 2018 5:24 am

Hello, one and all.. i find myself in a small predicament.. have replaced the cam chains and assorted bits on a 2004 Ktm 950.. but, work has come to a halt as a " mystery washer" has raised its ugly head.. i believe it belongs to the balancer shaft , tight against the bearing on the clutch side.. it may reside between the the lower cam chain gear and the bearing.. it fits exactly on the shaft and looks very much like the inner race and matches right up with it.. i checked parts fiches and this particular washer is not there.. and as another hint.. as i was removing the balancer shaft ( tapping) the telltale " clink" alerted me that something had fallen off.. i just need some confirmation.. before i button the engine up..as to where exactly it (washer) belongs.. i read " Byzuks" cam chain R and R , and he speaks of this washer( i assume its this washer) .. and mentions it as an aside , to put it somewhere safe.. i had looked before removing balancer ..but, am not sure if i missed it.. yep, i can blab on..any insight would be so greatly appreciated..thank you

Don't have any experience on the 2004 models, has the sprocket nut on the balance shaft haves its washer?

Sadly not.. that washer is accounted for.. i'm fairly certain it fits flush to the balancer bearing clutch side.. but, without actually seeing it in situ.. and no record of it in the parts fiche.. its almost a spacer.. seems like it may give a little added clearance in order that the cam chain does not rub against the case..

Solved.. its part of the bearing..stamped on washer/spacer.. NTN 2046/220.. googled.. voila.. note.. there is no signs of shearing , etc..just part of the bearing in this case.. bearing spins nicely , no play to the side / up/ down.. no grinding.. no false stops.. doh!
