Parts needed for tune up

Post by Zombie Master » Mon Jan 15, 2018 1:20 am

2013 990SMT

I'm going to do a service myself. I've got a shim kit and crank holding tool, air filter, fuel filter, and spark plugs. What else should I order before I start? :geek:

I’ve just finished my big service. You need a big (14mm) Allen key to crank the engine over to find TDC. Have you got feeler gauges? Also, on our later bikes, it’s not a 16mm thin walled socket for the spark plugs. I think it’s 13 standard. Try it on your new plugs.

I did an oil and filter at the same time so pretty standard with what you need there.

Did you need any O rings or valve cover gaskets. Stuff like that? :geek:

No, I didn’t change any gaskets or o-rings, other than what normally comes in the oil filter Kit. Head gaskets we’re fine to reuse, just be carful with the front head if you plan on leaving the rad on (I did). Clearance is really tight and you wouldn’t want to destroy your gasket getting it out. One person holding the rad forward whilst you manoeuvre works.
