Coolant change

Post by Zombie Master » Wed Aug 16, 2017 9:13 am

2013 990 smt

So I'm due for a coolant change. I have the factory manual that goes up to 2011. Any recommendations? I know I can raise the front end enough as per spec in manual. I've bought some Maxima Coolanol, and I got new gaskets for the drain points. Any experience with this procedure on this model? Everything is different on the KTM from what I'm used to on Japanese bikes. Thanx! :)

Hi "Zombiemaster"

990 SMT 2010
I did that operation during last spring. No problem at all. Just followed the manual.
Recommend you to follow it as well.

I use Evans waterless coolant and runs cooler than standard coolant, follow the book and all should be fine.

How did you get the front end up to get the rad high enough to bleed?

Any comments on the Evans product. Was it difficult to change over?

Well, I lifted the front wheel by hand up on a bike lift. Secured the bike with "ropes" not to let the bike tilt. Then pumped the lift up to the level I needed. Don´t have pictures, unfortunately.

That doesn't make any sense.

Search on Google for "Abba skylight lift" and watch the pictures. The ABBA skylift can turn the bike into 45° angle!

That looks like a cool lift. I have a standard full length bike lift so I'm not going to buy another lift just for this one operation.
