Oil Tank

Post by kennykjam » Sat Jul 22, 2017 9:45 pm

I have had numerous problems with my the Oil Tank on my 2012 SMT over the years.
Broken Bolts, stripped threads, etc ... not sure if others have had the same troubles.

Anyway 2 questions:
1. Anyone know where I could get hold of a replacement oil tank, new or secondhand?
2. Would it be possible to re-tap the bolt hole on the right in the attached image up to M7?

Today, I re-tapped it with M6 and added a longer bolt as a temporary solution but I don't think it will survive the next oil change knowing my luck ... I was looking inside the tank with the oil screen removed and it wasn't really clear if there was enough scope to rethread that hole much bigger, probably not M8 anyways.

Maybe, I should get an M6 helicoil kit, google says that the drill bit size for that would be 6.2 mm which is probably safe

Helicoil did the trick, super simple, half hour job.
