Is there a step by step guide to renewing the standard air filter anywhere

Post by jeremybingham » Thu Jun 29, 2017 2:59 pm

Hi All, do most of my maintenance myself; not posted for ages as have been out having 2 new hips-now riding the bike again and loving it BUT it is ready for a full service and therefore air filter and spark plugs. I can't seem to find any guide anywhere on how to replace the standard filter-lots on the air box and replacing it but can anyone help out with a link or instructions for a total novice in this respect-did a Triumph Daytona-tank off job but never done the 990smt!

It's tank off and top of the airbox off. Very easy to do and you'll find plenty on here about tank removal. Basically follow what's been written about replacing the airbox, just don't replace it [WINKING FACE]

Yep. Self-explanatory, just follow your nose.
The electrical connector for the fuel sender can be stiff and the wires are very thin so patient wiggling may be required.
When refitting the tank make sure before you reconnect things that the breather pipe is in position and hasn't been trapped beneath the tank and watch you don't knock the cap off the coolant reservoir.

It's in the owners manual I think. Make sure you have a next to empty tank and remove the crash bars if fitted. You might as well do the plugs while you are under there. You will need a bit of extra room, just drain a small amount of coolant, take off the horn, top pipe and fixings and swing the radiator forward-that will allow a bit of space to pull off the fans and cowling.

Hi "jeremybingham"

Hope the new hips are playing on your side of the field ;)

Whan I take the tank off, I HAVE to pull the hose connection for the coolant reservior, otherwise it´s impossible to get the tank off... Maybe it is because the tank has swelled a bit.
