Cheap air box that works
Cheap Air Box
I have been asked this question a few times of late, where can I get the cheapest air box for my 990 that works.
The cheapest air box I know of.
Send George an Email for a base plate, tell him kevxtx sent you gfrago@otenet.gr or you can buy them off Ebay
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Aluminum-base-p ... 32&vxp=mtr
Then buy one of these filters a JC30-80 http://www.patrickmotorsports.com/part/ ... w-jc30-80/
For the local Oz guys these guys are our local filter agents
http://www.itgairfilters.com/distributo ... utors&ID=2
You can make seals for the base plate by cutting the orange seal out of your standard air filter.
# Note these filters need to be oiled + grease applied to the base plate/filter sealing face to make sure you have an it air tight seal.

Hi!
Got the base plate some weeks ago directly from George, great contact and prompt delivery.
Perfect fit on the bike and with the ITG.
Still have to do the ini run to see how it works (for me!).
Great recommendateion Kev!
Cheers

Re: Cheap air boxes that work
I am running the ITG jc30/65 "Sausage" filter. It is just great. With a proper map the bike really rocks.
Used blank base plates - a bit of work getting it to fit.. But remember only RC8 stacks fit here. The standard stacks are to "tall" for this airfilter. You have to go up to jc30/90 (think it was called that) for the standard stacks to fit inside,

Useful info I will add this to the main page.bambadoo wrote:I am running the ITG jc30/65 "Sausage" filter. It is just great. With a proper map the bike really rocks.

The MK3 still offers a good air flow.

Hi Kev,kevxtx wrote:Thanks for your feedback Roland nice to know. Where did you get your filter from & what was the price.
bought it from Merlin Motorsports, UK, http://www.merlinmotorsport.co.uk/p148/ ... _info.html. Was buying using our companies account, so a little less, great support with prompt and quick delivery from the UK to Austria.
Had the ini run yesterday and a (very) short test, seems to run great with your map #10, adjusted by +2% F1/F2 from 2000 rpm as you recommended. Btw. running the standard stacks with secondaries removed.
Will keep you informed

Re: Cheap air boxes that work
Interesting. It is probably just the "Sausage" filter that wont take the standard stacks.

Re: Cheap air boxes that work
I have just ordered the ITG filter and a blank baseplate. Does anyone have any dimensions for the position and size of the holes for the throttle bodies ? Looking at the pictures of the pre-cut plates the holes don't seem to be circular ? Also I intend to cut the seals from the standard air filter, do they fit between the TBs and plate ? Any advice would be appreciated.

Re: Cheap air boxes that work
To confirm the flat top 65 will take the STD stacks & the round top only takes the RC8 stacks? Just trying to clarify what takes what as I am getting conflicting information off the net.bambadoo wrote:Interesting. It is probably just the "Sausage" filter that wont take the standard stacks.

Hi Kev,kevxtx wrote:Thanks Roland, what was the height clearance like with the STD stacks?
sorry, did not measure the clearance but it is enough room for the standard stacks, discussed it in advance as well with George for I was thinking of the JC30/90 dur to this matter but George recommended the JC30/65 as well and he was afraid of the hight of the JC30/90 under the tank. So I followed his advice with the JC30/65.
If I see the pictures of the saussage filter it seems clear (to me

Best regards

Re: Cheap air boxes that work
I have been running the ITG filter for a couple of years now. Been trying alot of maps.
I wrote something about it here.
viewtopic.php?f=13&t=3770&start=650#p23800
The latest iteration is by far the best (for me and my setup)..
Other mods:
-ITG Sausage filter itg30-65
- breather outside the filter
-Akra cans
-32mm Db-killers both in and out depending on my mood (25.03.2013 - it is out
)
-2nd flies and shafts removed
-RC8 Stacks
O2 sensors turned off
EPC turned off
SAS blocked off
Gearing: 16 tooth sprocket front & 42 tooth sprocket rear
95 and 98 ron fuel.
Live up North in Norway.. 6 degrees C outside today
The latest map can be downloaded here (unable to upload zip files on this forum now.. Worked last year)
https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B6y-cEF ... lxb28/edit
I have never had the bike performance measured.

Re: Cheap air boxes that work
Thanks for your feedback, looks like these air boxes could be a hit. If anyone has one in Brisbane let me borrow the air box for a few days & will build a custom map for them.
Re: Cheap air boxes that work
Hi all, I did not know that there was a JC30/90.ROL99 wrote:Hi Kev,

However there is a JC30/80 which does not appear in the ITG documentation :
http://itgairfilters.com/downloads/JC30.pdf

and it fit well under the tank my old SM 990 :

I bought it there : http://www.merlinmotorsport.co.uk/advan ... ords=JC30-
Saddened for bad knowledge of the English - I'm a french speaker
