KTM 990 SM issues

Post by davi82a » Sat Jun 09, 2018 10:46 pm

Hello everyone,
i'm having some problems with my 2008 supermoto 990.
It starts and runs for approximately 5-7 seconds and then cuts itself out.
I have plugged the ECU diagnostics in and the messages I got were following:

inlet air temperature short circuit to battery
Ignition coil 1 malfunction
Ambient pressure sensor high voltage or open circuit

I proceeded to clear the error messages and after plugging it in again, the following came up:

Fall detection sensor circuit high voltage or open circuit
Malfunction of CAN-Bus communication

I've had a scan of all the wiring and seems fine.

I went down my old path of troubleshooting. air-fuel-ignition inspection. Had the fuel pump out, filters were filthy, so wasn't a waste of time. checked pump straight to battery; no issues there, steady flow.
Air filter is brand new and air box is spotless. next is ignition/electrics, not my strong point, so was just visual. I have a multimeter, however I found it tough to trace where all the lines go to have your 2 points for continuity checks.

The things I've done wrong to provoke issue:
tried to start engine with exhaust bungs in
Functioned ignition a few times without starting engine to troubleshoot the crappy dash board display(note:engine was running before with dashboard fault present)

I'm hoping there are some KTM gurus out there. any help would be much appreciated.

Based on the latest error codes (the ones after the clear), I’d be looking at the Roll Over Sensor, which sits by the ECU just in front of the airbox.

I believe you can just remove this and try again.

This was the issue, the roll over sensor had come free from its retaining bracket and was sitting upside down. Thanks jhalfhide :D
