How much louder is a Rottweiler than the stock intake?

Post by roblund6 » Sun Feb 11, 2018 9:27 am

I did a search from the home page of this website, and no results found.

So, yet (probably) another simple answer to a simple question. How much louder is a Rottweiler intake system compared to the stock unit? (Bearing in mind I do have the full Akrapovic sytem fitted, with baffles left in)

I'm getting a little worried that it may be too noisy on long journeys, and/or annoy everyone else that comes within ear-shot.

Loud. I always wear ear plugs now and my mates have complained when riding with me. I did take someone on the back once, but she's refused to go again, complaining it's too loud (though it could be she just doesn't like me).

It’s louder, no worse than pipes though. I ride without earplugs and my wife goes on the back with no complaints. Did over 7 thousand miles last year with my airbox and no problems

'roblund6'

You see, 2 person's have the opposite experience of sounds.
To me, the sound from intake after dismounted the second flies (stock airbox but K&N filter), was simply too loud for me (with earplugs and original silencers mounted) so I have mounted the second flies again and will go all the way back to stock.
I really dislike high sound levels... :(

First it felt too loud, but I got use to it fast, and would not change the noice level back. Having stock silencers, and it is very nice now. Other benefits are so substantial that you won’t regret.

I have the LeoVince cans and a Rottweiler intake system with second flies removed.

When i ride with the db-killers in, the intake makes more noise than the LeoVince, with the db-killers out, the Leo Vince makes more noise.

Anyway, the sheer corporal feel of the bike with the Rottweiler system with second flies removed is reason enough to go ahead, strongly recommend.

Also, get some custom moulded ear plugs, just to stay safe ;)

Sound great or its too loud, depending on what you're doing. I had a DNA filter on my SMT. Sounded fab for charging about the B roads and general hooliganism. I was far less keen when I took the bike touring for a week. If you're riding aggressively it adds to the exhilaration and its pleasingly throbby for low rev pootling but if you want to settle back and cover distance in comfort it gets intrusive especially when the engine is under load on a constant throttle and it makes it feel busier. Its made worse by the fact that the 990 mill is revvy rather than torquey and when you grab big throttle openings under load it really resonates.
Its not terrible or deafening by any means but the standard 1190 Adv I've got now is a lot more pleasant for long days in the saddle. I'd like to decat, remap and uncork the 1190 but I'm not keen to turn my touring bike into raspy back laner so I'll probably fit Powercell pod filters instead of a foam filter as a sort of half-way house.

Intake noise is most noticeable for the rider and pillion, doesn't really affect following riders so much. Other way way round with cans (within reason, obviously). I don't think the airbox will bother your mates as long as its been properly mapped. Excessive popping and banging on the over-run is pretty unpleasant for people behind you.

Thank you Gimlet for your response.
I'll post on here when I eventually get it done.
Cheers, Rob.
