Expectations exceeded

Post by Dad » Mon Aug 17, 2015 3:39 pm

Hi,

After dragging my arse for a couple of years, all the time convinced the SMT was a perfect fit for me, I pulled myself together last week and traded in my BMW R1200S for this well cared for white 2011 SMT with useful mods and quality panniers.

My background is mainly in MX/enduro with a lot of different Husky two and four strokes. On road i've had an R1200GS which I traded for the R12S five years ago.

Weather was great this weekend and I managed to escape for a couple of hours to get to know the bike.

I. LOVE. IT.

Thanks,

it sure is. Just have to get a new battery...

I left ignition on for 6-7 minutes this morning before pressing the starter and that drained it! Should have been fully charged after riding an hour evening before.

Have been checking out the forum re batteries and will likely go for a lithium-ion variant, since the bike is rarely exposed to sub 15C temperatures.

After 400 km of country laning last weekend and loving the bike despite the throttle control issues, I was back on the daily commute Monday with lots of steady slow driving and filtering. Once again hating the bloody coughing Austrian for it´s complete inability to run properly on a steady throttle or pick up smoothly. Rage traded it for a 2015 Yamaha MT09 Tracer Tuesday and now ride with a huge grin in ALL situations. Throttle control and confidence, I've been missing you.

I've been pretty happy commuting on the SDR. Very stable and predictable at low speed partial throttle. No surging. I guess ride by wire does work...
