Re: What oil are you guys running? Summer vs winter?

I've been using Amsoil 10-40 on both my SMT & SDr, combined 65,000 miles. Both bikes must think it's Motorex, they haven't complaint. After all these years and miles I spend more time enjoying the ride than worrying, some items deserve a bit of attention but nothing seems to implode when not done st...

Seems as if they're on a three year refresh cycle. But you cannot go wrong with any of them!

Re: Tell me it is a bad idea..

The motorags say last qtr of the year as a '19 model. Based on my experience buying my SMT & 1290r I would estimate early deliveries about a year from now.

Re: Tell me it is a bad idea..

I'm looking forward to the introduction in the U.S. later in the year, I'll provably end up buying one. It promises to be another category buster, this time in the middleweight division. I'm even considering parting with my beloved SMT to make room for this lightweight wonder.

Vibral, what floats your boat? A Brutale 800? A DR-Z400SM? A KTM 790r or maybe a Thruxton 1200 r? Or, go to the Dark Side for a 2018 'Fat Bob'? Man, the choices are endless!

I'd be curious to hear more about the reasons why a turbo 'Busa would tempt you to part with a 1290 SDr.

Re: Northern California/Bay Area?

Just got back Tuesday: Hwy #26 (like glass!) to #88 to #89, Monitor Pass. Back on Ebbetts Pass, a rollercoaster ride past some gorgeous alpine lakes. Al in all 535 miles of fun in one day. #49 was closed at Coulterville due to Mariposa fire, looked like a nuclear mushroom from a distance! Heading ba...

Re: US/North America 2017 Super Duke R release/timing

U.S. certification caused delivery delays with the first gen 1290r also, normal stuff but no consolation to those of you with the fever. My wait was all worth it, I'm sure yours will be also! All that anticipation is fun but can get expensive as you plan all the improvements to make 'er yours!

Re: Warning: Verify clutch fluid replacement is appropriate!

I suspect Magura had something to do with it, based on stats and logistics. Personally I'd rather stay with the mineral oil, DOT 4 is nasty to painted surfaces and it attracts moisture, so it needs all the more attention. But, if I had to deal with manufacturing realities, I'd much rather have one u...

Re: Anyone with BST C/F wheels?

Same here, I've been riding on BTS's for ~2 years: They look as the day they went on. They've survived 'La Gloria Road' from Monterey East, and then later on that tour the grade into San Juan Bautista: If they can handle that they can survive anything!

Let me be clear, this suspension had been maintained by a pro shop all along. Neglect or abuse were not factors, that's what made the failure remarkable and worth posting.

Re: Anybody running 20w50 amsoil

Oil is oil. Havent heard of any engine failures because of the brand of oil. But we riders seem to be superstitious, change it more often than needed and talk about pros and cons. Your engine doesn't care as long as it's spec.

Re: Anybody running 20w50 amsoil

Should be able to get 'AmSoil Metric Motorcycle 10-40' easily enough. I've used it for years but I have absolutely no first hand evidence that it is better (or worse) than anything else out there.

Re: Slipping Clutch

Thanks, D.N. Looks as if Gilles has not addressed the 1290 SDr. Can't really blame them, no point in providing a solution for a non-problem, as the tranny on the 1290 has been particularly sweet, my issues have been with the clutch, not the cogs. Issues started when I added shims to the clutch sprin...

Re: Slipping Clutch

Back from a 1,000 mile "Circle NorCal" blast, definitely no clutch slip. But the problem finding neutral at a dead stop persists. And shifting is not nearly as buttery as it was. I wonder how a new clutch pack with extra spring shims, and the factory recommended Motorex oil, can make that sort of ch...

Re: Slipping Clutch

Well, now with new clutch pack fitted with additional spring shims; Rebuilt master and well flushed line, fresh fluids.

So far so good with the exception of one "new" issue: Finding neutral while at a full stop. No issues finding neutral while still rolling, coming to a stop.

Re: Riding the torque as opposed to riding the HP

I'd be curious to read responses too. The last few days I've been riding my MV Brutale 910 and the sound, feel & pull of that 4-pot engine is plenty entertaining, even from down-low. It's cartoonish, the urgency with which it winds, and the 'Whaaaaa-Ooooo' sounds it makes, but it never needs to get ...

Re: Warning: Verify clutch fluid replacement is appropriate!

I've replaced the caps with the KTM metal ones, a sharp tech may link the VIN number to the correct fluid. Best to specify and verify, this one item has "mistake" written all over it.
