Re: MTC Failure What Do You Think?

Cheers all.......had a long chat with my cousin 'John' the bike mechanic, engine builder, dyno tuner and general miracle worker...... He was telling me about some major 'faults' that had developed on some recent Yamaha's and Kawasaki's in his time working for a big suburban dealership. Seems the Jap...

Re: Hard Suspension

Hey DaveNZ - go and see your dealer mechanic again. My TPMS gives me my hot tyre pressures while riding but I had the "Warning" switched off......as this was all they could figure out instead of changing the warning trigger values to say 30f and 32r.......anyway, no low pressure nanny warn...

Re: A bit of a review

Cheers Batman...... great write-up. I agree with my NZ copy about a smidge more rebound on the rear and a wiff less on the front but otherwise I can find a setting to cover most Aussie goat tracks.. I use the cruise control quite often, and the heated grips work nice - oh, I put a set of "...

Re: Rear Shock damage

I've yet to wash the crud of my GT after the weekend's tour, but I'll have a close look to see if mine looks the same as yours. I usually have mine in comfort/street damping and either 1up or 1+lgge. Not had the pleasure of a nice passenger... but I carry about 30kg of gear when I lock the pa...

A three day weekender - 1200ks of fun

G'day from Aus....... got a late call to join the Ducati Club's secret handshake.. ...(kidding) Tourismo event for 2017, and took off on a 1200km ride with 40-50 Ducati riders over a three day organised extravaganza :) Naturally, it rained on day one, that's just how it goes..... Ducati Touris...

Re: Hard Suspension

Cheeers Mr & Mrs Flingit... 8-) Glad you've tamed the beast and found some nice settings :) All comments so far are pretty much what I experienced........now 6000kms but my GT was a bit harsh in the first 1-2000kms ( I left it in solo & comfort while it settled in and just rode around the po...

Re: fuel pump or fuel filter fail

Hi from the other side of this crazy mixed up planet! Might be worth asking your dealership why they have put three fuel pumps on without flushing the fuel tank out to see if the fuel supply was contaminated. From Tancakar's post, I'd say they just replaced each pump and didn't bother to clean out t...

Re: MTC Failure What Do You Think?

G'day all, only idea I can suggest is to ask your tech's if the servo/ex-valve can be 'eliminated' using a plug-in module. Might cost a bit but it would remove the 'trouble maker' so you can forget about possible future failures. Anybody done this on a 1290 :?: (sorry I haven't been researching any ...

Re: Spark Plugs for the GT

Cheers all, just been down to my KTM dealership......they run an end of financial year sale on one Saturday in june (cost + 10% on spares).......so I figured I'd snap up a set of REAL NGK plugs if they were a good price. Well, my evil plan almost worked......they were listed as $188 a set of 4 ( EoF...

Re: Let's see the GT's

Ok.... here's my Grand Tourer. Taken on a 3day weekend trip into Blue's Territory, but what a sleek and comfortable machine, and plenty of go when the devil inside gets horny.... ;) 1290GT after 500km day ride to......2017.jpg I bought it in early Feb 2017.....it is the 2017 model with LED rear indi...

Re: Difficulty finding neutral

Clutch needs bleeding. I have a 2016 model with 6000mls from new, it was perfect when I bought it and gradually got worse over the mileage. Had it serviced recently and complain about the clutch, they bled it and it's now perfect again. It seems as though KTM clutch's let a little air in. Good poin...

Re: Center Stand

Haha......I've been using a brush on Motul chain grease and I'm impressed :D I was considering a Tutoro chain oiler, but that would have required a bit of effort to fit and fine tune for the GT's big thick swingarm.....and of course being a single sided S/Arm I couldn't use a cheap prop stand to lif...

Re: some experience about OIL on GT

Oh, that's right...... just to add that I too thought Motul 5100 was "semi synth" for years, until I looked at the Motul website recently and behold, it is written in words we can understand instead of technosyntheise bulldust speak......but M5100 is classed by Motul as 'Mid Strength Full ...

Re: some experience about OIL on GT

Cheers GT pilots...... I had my dealership mech's do the 1000km(620m) service and they invoiced 3.6 Ltrs of oil...... The owners handbook states 3.5L with a filter. I changed the oil myself at 5000kms (in preparation for a 3000km road ride that I had to "not go on" because of work :() , an...

Re: Who's done front sprox mod !

Yep, I'm attempting to buy both the 39 and the 40.......though for my Aussie 'conditions' (ie speed cameras behind every bush.....and unmarked patrol bikes.......well,..... not all the time  ) the 40 will sit nicely with the extra 350 rpms putting the motor into it's smooth sweet spot (4500rpms...

Re: Any reliable SD-GT's out there?

Not had any problem (only 6,000kms  ) but, was wondering......on the Caponord1200 forum everyone was talking about a Healtech exhaust valve elimunator plug-in device. Not seen any mention in this forum. If such a device was made for the 1290, might remove a potential weak spot. My exhaust valv...

Cheers my friends......though we may be one eyed KTM owners, we can still look at the other stuff...... ;) Reminds me of just how far we have come since those "old days".....and makes me wonder if the BMW "future" concept I've seen in a video clip could actually become reality......

Re: Spark Plugs for the GT

Thanks guys, I'm no where near plug change time yet.....but I suspect the mechanic quoting the prices to my BMW mate was using the US dealer price converted to Aus$. If that is true for KTM Aus spare parts, then I'll be looking to buy my own of the infernal net, rather than let the dealer make a hug...

Spark Plugs for the GT

Heard a comment from a friend who was told by a mechanic....... ..... that the spark plugs for KTM's are very expensive.....like $400Aus a set  Anybody priced a set of sparklers yet...... (my CBR1100XX uses 4 x Iridium NGK's which last 50k kms and cost $130 a set of 4......well, they d...
