Re: Leaking fuel cap

I've noticed that mine will weep around the seal if I overfill it so I try not to top it off. I've never noticed fumes or any smell though. Not sure if they're still around but somebody used to make a fuel cap replacement for these and the 690's that had a replacement collar and then used a standard...

Re: Splitting the cases !

Nah I totally get it. The dealer support is a joke here too. They have no interest or support for the street bikes. Aside from just being lazy and rude. That coupled with insulting prices makes the marque undesirable to the non dirt bike crowd. On that note Indian is officially building the ftr1200 ...

Re: Ignition wire problem

It sounds like you've certainly located the problem. I haven't had mine apart but it looks like the plastic shroud should come off...I'm sure you can get it apart and make repairs depending on how in depth you feel like getting. Worth a try in my opinion cause I'm sure the replacement cylinder isn't...

Re: Splitting the cases !

I dunno bud, sifting through forums I found a picture at one time of new and old shim buckets side by side and the new one appeared different. Whether it didn't have a coating or it was a different coating I can't say and neither could the owner. I don't imagine dealers would have a clue either, cer...

Re: Clutch problem

Nice fix. Funny how Ktm and Ducati can't seem to sort out such a dead simple part like a slave cylinder. Keep an eye on the clutch master cylinder as well, mine got weepy around 30k miles and after reading about issues around the forums I ended up just replacing with another model from magura. No is...

Re: Splitting the cases !

Yes Limey! Exact same issue. I noticed at my 40,000 mi service. shim bucket coating is flaking off on cam surface. I needed the bike back together so I figured I'd deal with it at the 50k mi service. I'm at 46,600 mi now, so I figure I'll order the parts in time for the service and crossing my finge...

Re: Rusted/captive engine bolt nut

Fine job, interested to see how this turns out. I'll also be interested in total cost of parts to get it freshened up since it seems low mileage duke engines are pretty plentiful...I need to have a game plan in place cause my SMT is getting long in the tooth. Thanks for the pics and updates!

Re: Leaky compression clicker

Thanks for the heads up thirdway. I was able to get it out today without much trouble, just had to drill a relief hole to access the snap ring with a pick. The bottom adjuster is basically the same as the top, it holds an o ring to seal and two bearings with a spring between for the detent. I should...

Leaky compression clicker

Here’s a good one. The compression clicker (one on the bottom) on my right fork has been weeping so I asked the shop to ck/replace the o ring on it when I had my suspension serviced a few months ago. They missed the note somehow and it’s been getting worse (3,500 mi later) so I pulled it and took it...

Re: SMR 990 Slight wobble in front wheel from pothole

You could get a new front and rear for that price, motowheels.com has a few options. Are you positive it's the wheel? Have you taken a peek at the head bearings lately? Did the forks maybe get twisted in the clamps? Just want to rule out the simple stuff first before dropping that kind of cash. Good...

Re: Calsci Touring Windshield

I put one on a 2009 v strom and it was great, albeit hideous...which matched the v stroms personality. It was really nice to be able to ride with my visor up and not get debris in my eyes as well as get on the freeway without needing earplugs. I think the price is a little steep for what it is (trim...

Re: Stator Cover Oil leak

You might be able to get away with some rtv. Slide the grommet on the wire and clean everything real good, dab on some rtv then slide the grommet back in place. Same on the outside surfaces that contact the case. Might hold you over for awhile anyway.

Replace ALL fluids. Coolant, brake and clutch fluid seem to always be neglected. Good luck with the search, these are great bikes.

Re: Stator Cover Oil leak

Maybe give the bike a good wash with a degreaser and then take it out for a romp so you can narrow down where it's coming from...maybe finish the ride on a dusty dirt road. I'm not sure if it's just the picture but it looks like theres oil everywhere. If indeed it's the stator grommet then that coul...

Re: Gas tank pressurised

I've seen the gas tank vent check valves on other bikes not do their job and result in what you experienced. I'm sure Ktm would warranty it for you but the new one could be just as problematic. Easy enough to cut it out and just have a free flowing vent if it keeps giving you problems.

Re: Leaking Fuel Tank

As far as your question, I would say somewhat likely. I haven't heard about too many on the SMT but I've seen it before on dirt bikes with the same style of tank that has threaded bodies molded into the tank. Seems that since moisture has nowhere to go they tend to corrode and seize up and when you ...
