Re: 2017 Keyless issue

No idea what the dealers did with their demo bikes. They only mentioned the fob battery. I suspect there is a bug in the software which will have been quietly ironed out on the 2018 bikes. The brake recall is for a faulty Brembo front brake M/C piston which goes back to 2015 and also affects Ducat a...

Re: 2017 Keyless issue

I had the "key not in range" issue when riding a 1290 S demo bike here in the UK. (in fact I've ridden two 1290 S demo bikes, a year apart and it happened on both of them). The dealer said it was probably the battery in the key fob. If so there seems to be ab awful lot of key fobs going out with dud...

Re: What’s it worth (UK)

Trade prices for standard bikes of that age and mileage are 6.5 - 7K. The extras may or may not make it worth more depending on who's buying. KTM'ers in the know are more likely to value the upgrades and pay a premium for them. First-timers less so. Advertise on the UK forum as well as this one. Try...

Re: My 2013 has arrived

Try any sticky sports tyre, it can do them justice. I ran Metzeler M7RRs on mine. Dunlop Sportmax are good but I found the Metzelers warm up faster and give more feedback. Never tried Conti Sport attacks but I know someone who rated them highly on the Superduke so they should suit the SMT. If you wa...

Re: Raising forks through clamp

You don't have to but sometimes the weight of the wheel pulling pulling the fork leg against the yokes causes friction which makes the legs harder to move smoothly. Taking the weight off the wheel with a jack helps but if you take the wheel out the forks move effortlessly. TBH when I did my SMT the ...

Re: Raising forks through clamp

That's basically it. I used an Abba stand and got both wheels off the ground. Remove the front wheel and fender. You can remove the calipers if you wish and hang them from the handlebars to take as much weight off the fork as possible but I didn't bother. Slacken the pinch bolts evenly so you can mo...

Re: Clutch /engine problem LC8

Do you mean the chain guard became detached from the swinging arm and was carried forwards on the chain and got rammed down between the front sprocket and the gearbox thus straining the drive shaft and wrecking the bearing? If so that is something of a freak accident which I've never heard of before...

There was a write-up on the '8 GT in yesterday's MCN and the said it would have the full colour dash from the 1290 SA S.

Re: Calsci Touring Windshield

try the Palmer screen. Can't compare directly with the Calsci but the Palmer works on the SMT. You sit in clean and quiet air, its adjustable and it isn't huge and doesn't look hideous. Worth paying for the option of powder coated brackets and it looks even better. The screen material is better qual...

Re: New Oberon

The Oberon slave I had on my SMT was really easy to reverse bleed. I've never managed to do it with a KTM slave. I'll be getting one for my Superduke because the original is constant trouble and the lever action feels weak and flaccid. I hate it. Oberon going on this winter. Though I am wondering wh...

Re: My SMT's dubious superlative

Good move. That's exactly what I did and for exactly the same reasons. Sold the SMT (only 18000 miles on mine) and bought a mint 2015 1190S with under 3K on the clock. Haven't regretted it for a second. The 1190 has got under my skin just like the SMT did. I've become deeply attached to mine and in ...

At least yours had grease on them. Mine were pretty much bone dry and orange. I didn't use a pressure washer either.

Re: Back in the fold!!

1190s are damn quick. They don't have anything like the outright acceleration of the 1290 but the pace they can keep up through bends takes a lot of people by surprise. They annoy the hell out of sports bikes. Through the windies I'm just as quick on the 1190 as I am on the Superduke. Sometimes more...

Re: The new 790 Duke for 2018

There's a review of the prototype in Performance Bikes this month. Hasn't got its finished colours but it doesn't look much like the concept. Looks like a slightly bigger 690 Duke.
Be interesting to see the finished article. Should make a hell of a track bike on a small circuit.

Re: Pointers for a SMT buyer

I'd rather run a chain quite a bit slack than just a little bit tight, especially on a bike with long travel suspension.

A lot of people seem to run chains too tight these days. Its extremely bad for the gearbox and drive train.

Re: Pointers for a SMT buyer

The suspension specialist who has set up all my bikes commented on the quality of the SMT's suspension. He thought it a lot better than that fitted to my 2016 Superduke. Three things you should do with an SMT: shed as much superfluous weight as possible, stop feckin about if you don't know what you'...

Re: Pointers for a SMT buyer

Swinging arm fills up with water on all model years and need drain holes. Sorted in five minutes at zero cost. Headrace bearings often poorly greased and can fail in under 10,000 miles. Test ride the bike. If the steering is weird and feels like the front tyre is half flat, that's probably what it i...
