Re: de-cat and slip on or full system with cat?

If by full Akra you mean the Evo, it doesn't have a cat. What looks like a cat is a resonator box. Straight-through aftermarket decat link pipes with no chamber in them tend to be louder and harsher. Personally, I've yet to see an aftermarket system that makes me wish I hadn't bought the Evo. Withou...

Got the same on mine. Also a big fan of Evotech. Waiting for a rad guard for my 1190 but they're out of stock.

Re: ITG intake noise

Sound changes depending what oil you use. I oiled the Rotweiller on mine with No Toil. Then tried changing to Motorex after a service. It sounded very harsh and metallic so I went back to No Toil. Much smoother sound. No Toil clings to the filter better too. The Motorex disappeared after a few hundr...

Re: Dunlop Roadsmart 3

Just avoid Metzeler Z8s. They caused terrible bar-wagging on my SMT. The 01s seem to have universally good write-ups with very good wear and wet grip characteristics - something which I think does vary between brands in a tight sector. Some are more prone to squaring than others and some some can be...

Re: Dynomapping

No. You need a better dyno shop. They're trying to sell you an unnecessary PC because they can't re-write the ECU. All a PC does is add extra fuelling instruction to those running on the ECU. It doesn't control any other parameters and it can't alter what the ECU is doing already. If they have the s...

Re: Dunlop Roadsmart 3

I ran a couple of sets of Roadsmart IIs on my SMT before switching to M7RRs. Grip and feedback are both very good and they have a nice turn-in characteristic, just the quick side of neutral. Wet grip is also very good but they are slow to warm and feel wooden and nervy until up to temp. In the winte...

Re: Service costs

I had a major service done on my SMT recently just before selling it. It was an 18,000 mile biggie done early at 17000 miles. THere were no problems but they checked everything. Valve clearances were checked but didn't need adjusting. Everything else was done, all fluids changed, brakes overhauled e...

Re: SDR 2017 clogged fuel filter

Fuel pump problems aren't unknown. The mechanic road tested my 2016 SDR when it went in for its first service and said it wasn't right. He checked the fuel pump and found it was down on pressure. They took one off a new bike in the show room and fitted it on the spot under warranty and its run perfe...

Re: Opinion's or Thought's wanted

I'm baffled why anyone would sell a bike that's barely past its first service, unless it was a self-destructing, hideously uncomfortable gutless mal-handling dog, which the SDR clearly is not, or unless they just enjoy throwing money down the drain. You can't possibly form a judgement on a bike befo...

Re: Ktm 1190 vs Ducati Multistrada 1200S

Probably a little late to this thread but as a Ducati (Streetfighter) and a KTM owner, my opinion for what its worth is I'd have the 1190 every time. Too many problems with Multis. Seems to be a gamble. Some are trouble-free, others are horror stories and IMO even a good one is not a viable high mil...

Re: Seriously not impressed

The side stand on the 1290 SDR is about 10 mm too long. You get used to searching the ground ahead for a low spot to set it down into when parking and turning round so its leaning with the wind and not into it.

Re: Palmer Products Screen

No, they're very good. The quality of the plastic is superior to standard KTM screens. Its clearer and less inclined to scratch or smear. I had the medium tint. When I first fitted mine I was conscious of some reflection from the headlight and the indicators at night but nothing excessive and it was...

Re: Seriously not impressed

On raucous buzzy twins nuts and bolts need to be checked, especially undamped frame bolts that aren't overly tight and bodywork screws etc. I've had battery leads come loose as well. They got thread-locked on. My SMT has gone now and I can't say I've ever had the side stand off so I may be thinking ...

Re: SMT to GS?

Hopefully my SMT will be sold on Saturday and pending that sale I've got a returnable deposit down on an 1190 Adv. I love my SMT and I will be extremely sorry to see it go but it isn't the sporty tourer I want. It copes with touring but it doesn't excel. It excels at charging around B roads and back...

Re: Palmer products screen

One of the first things I bought for mine. A vast improvement over the standard or the KTM touring screen. Never had an issue with insects or rain. The position does make a difference. Not so much height but tilt. Too upright and mine buffets like hell. Tip it back and all is calm. Worth the spend I...

Re: '17 SDR Owners: What's your opinion?

Yes, do get paint protection and get it from the start. If you put it on over a chip it makes the chip look worse. The SDR is quite a tricky kit to fit. The tank sections are very large and they won't fit on if you put the tank pads on first. The tail section on the '16 bike is a bit awkward too aro...
