Heads up with higher mileage.

After destroying a chain in 11,000km, I noticed my rear sprocket carrier loose. Bike is currently at 71,000km and sprocket carrier was flogged out and in need of replacement. Jar dampers replaced too. I certainly wouldn't consider myself a hard rider and my bike is near stock, so with mods, it may b...

Re: Sheared off oil filter cap screw

Nasty, so best of luck with that extraction.

Secondly, why are you still using the old filters?

Who has strayed from the KTM recommendation of Motorex Power Synthetic 5W40?
That's only a recommendation for temps below 0°C. Above and 10W50 Power Synthetic is the recommended oil.

That said, I use Total 10W50 4T synthetic as it seems to work well and is very reasonably priced.

Re: Do you all tighten your rear wheel nut to 250nM? If so, HTF do you get it loosened?

He told me the '14 1290 takes a 50mm Nut, not a 60mm. I told him I think that's wrong, as I've read 60mm all over the place, and have in fact used this 60mm socket successfully once before..... Am I crazy?? The nut is M50 x 1.5 and requires a 60mm socket, so you're both right lol. I've actually got...

Re: Tacho Stuck ...

This has started happening to my bike since the 60,000km service and getting worse. Just yesterday the needle cycled when ignition switched on and stuck around 10,000rpm. On start-up it was reading over 11,000 and into no mans land when revved. :( Service tech is going to look into it. Even a repair...

56,000k in a couple years, nice. If you don't mind I would sharing how the bikes held up? you're right at the 2nd valve check how did they spec? Finally got the 60,000km service done this month. Clearances still all good, in fact overall condition good. Just replaced chain/sprockets again, so now o...

Anybody ever try Shinko tires? I ran them on my last 3 bikes, and liked them a great deal. In terms of cents per mile, they were unbeatable.
I tried a Shinko Apex 010 on the rear of the SDR. Sport tyre with ok grip, but longevity in the toilet I wouldn't be in a hurry to try another.

I’ve been using Michelin pilot power 3, and now am using pilot power 4’s.
You sure you're not meaning Pilot Road 3/4? Pilot Power 4 will never be a reality as it's call the Power RS.

Re: 18,000 mile service

Should be 18,641 mile service. :D

Not sure if you're aware, but KTM list this service at 182 minutes for a 2015 model and 186 minutes for a 2016 model, but that doesn't seem to include valve adjustment, only check.

I got a set of Dunlop Pilot Power RS's for another bike so I'll update on those too.
You may want to check the manufacturer on those Power RS's, cause my one's a Michelin. ;)

I went on a web site that has parts diagrams and the same part number is used all the way to the 17 year so either they have not changed anything or they did and left the number the same.
There is a change with that part. Previous = 61314140000 and later = 61314140200.

Re: Fork seal leaking at 2700 miles WTF

I had a leaking fork seal at 5 months old/8000km. Replaced under warranty.

Strangely, after that there were alternating leaks from side to side, but they'd stop on their own??? Over 56,000km now and not had any further seal problem.

Re: What mpg

Stock apart from Wings can.

Best to date is 5.1ltr/100km. That was 370km and a 18.9ltr refill. Conversion to US mileage is 46.1mpg

Tried the Akra map briefly, but the only great change was the rise in fuel consumption, so I changed back to stock.

I'll call bollocks to that. I've been using EBC HH pads for the last 22,000km and measured wear is between .03mm - .04mm. With a wear limit of .5mm, that should give me an approximate 275,000km from my rotors.

Re: High fuel consumption?

Glad you have it somewhat sorted. Last week I managed 370km from a tank, so I'd consider that rather economical. Usual riding is around 310-330km per tank. Back to stock map again, but fuel consumption was down by about 20-30km per tank with the EVO map. My bike is stock apart from a Wings can. Oh a...
