Re: I won't be recommending PR3s anymore

Hi Guys, I have had my 2009 SMT for 2 years now and have had Bridgestone BT020's, Bridgestone BT023's and Avon Ultra 2's on the bike. To be honest, I was not impressed by either of the Bridgestones. The 020 felt average in use and the 023 I felt was unsuited for the bike. The 023 was very stiff in t...

Re: ITG intake noise

Hi, try adding 1 or 2% more fuel. Generally, the maps seem to run slightly weak on UK fuel which makes intake noise louder

Re: LED rear stop/tail light replacement options??

Hi Guys, I replaced my pathetically weak rear light for a LED Unit from a company called KMX_24 DE in Germany. It was on EBay {182271083411}. I have to say it is well worth the money, I paid @ £100 delivered for it. It is a complete unit with multiple LED lights in it and it is about 10 times bright...

Re: SUSPENSION SETTINGS THREAD

I have just had a look at the owners manual for my 09 SMT. It does list the spring rates as Std 7.0 N/mm Options are 6.5 N/mm and 6.2 N/mm. The conversion table I have used brings the 7 N/mm spring in at 40 lbs per inch of travel, the 6.2 at 35.4 and the 6.5 at 37.1 lbs per inch of travel. Hope this...

Re: How do you remove the oil jet

The oil jet is a standard motorcycle carburettor jet. Not really necessary to drill out as small drills are more expensive than the new jet. A new jet is about £3 or thereabouts from Carb jet suppliers on Ebay. A .4 mm jet is marked as a 40, so a 50 would be .5 mm. Please bear in mind that there are...

990 SMT Fork Top Cap Removal

Hi everyone. I recently found a very cheap tool for removing the fork top cap during servicing etc. Lazer Tools do a fork tool suitable for the SMT. The part number is 5281 and is an adjustable pin wrench. A very good quality tool and I paid £6.49 against the KTM tool price of around £45. Do a searc...

Re: Plug/Connector identification

Hello, the white plug in top picture is the connector you use for plugging the link cable from your laptop into when using Tune ecu. The cover comes off and there is a multi plug underneath. Do not know what other black connector is. The white multi plug in picture 2 is for fitting a META DEFCOM T A...

A year with an SMT

As I have now had my SMT for a year now, I thought that putting my experiences down may help new owners or people thinking of buying one. The bike is a 2009 in Black/Orange. I have to say that I bought it because the riding reviews were so positive that I could not think of anything else that would ...

Try All Bike Engineering in London. They do Fork Stanchions and Custom Brake Discs all machined in house. Not very dear for what you get.
They are on 0208 858 9052 or allbikeengineering.co.uk

Re: won't idle down

It could be a tight inlet valve clearance (causes the inlet valve to open early while compression still in cylinder)This would let compression pressure into inlet of throttle body. This can pop off throttle body. V twins are known for having this happen, I used to always check throttle bodies/ carbu...

Re: won't idle down

Could the airflow readings have been wrong originally because of an air leak on the Throttle Body?
It is possible that now the Throttle Body is sealing properly, you need to check the balance again as you may have set it with an air leak.

Re: HELP! Goosed battery diagnosis needed - on holiday in Germany

Hi Muppet, I cannot really help with battery test unfortunately, but I have seen similar issues with new batteries failing early when a Bike Technician. New batteries come dry of acid and need filling at point of sale generally. When they have acid put in them, the tops/ sealing strip must be left o...

Re: fuel filter removal

I got the filters from gefr on the forum (George) @ £32 delivered. I believe that one of the problems is that the "tea Bag" Filter is a very fine mesh and filters down to 12 Microns (12000ths of a millimetre). This causes problems as it is too efficient and causes average size contaminants to become...

Re: fuel filter removal

I have just changed the fuel pump filters for the first time. I decided to do them due to the common problems with them blocking and not having any proof that they were done recently. Fairly easy as it turned out. 2009 SMT 1. I ran the fuel low so fuel light was on 2. Close both fuel taps 3. Remove ...

Re: Throttle Cable slack

There is slightly more adjustment on the bottom of cable on throttle bodies. I rerouted cable when I removed standard air box, so it came out on top of cross bar under headstock. This gave approx. 20mm extra plus adjustment gain.

Hi Griff, I have recently bought a 2009 SMT which was snatchy at low throttle openings. The bike is very good now, after several modifications off the forums. These are the mods as I did them and they all gave positive results. The bike was found to have a standard fuel map. It is a good idea to dow...

Thanks for the link, I seem to have been going to an earlier version of the Share4 page. The top 2 maps were not listed on the page I was looking at. Thanks again Rob :D
